The Corbin Lady ‘Hounds held off the South Laurel Lady Cardinals to advance to the 50th District championship game Thursday night against the Whitley County Lady Colonels.

It will be the third time the two teams have met this year with the Lady Colonels taking both games.

Corbin trailed only once in the game and that came on South Laurel’s first basket of the night by Macy Clontz.

Sarah Ashley and Miranda Wilson put the Lady ‘Hounds on the scoreboard for a 4-2 lead. Taylor Arthur tied the game with the following basket and that would be the only tie of the night. Junior center Holli Disney’s free throw with 3:36 in the period gave Corbin a lead they would never surrender.

The Lady Redhounds pushed the lead out to six pints by the end of the quarter, 13-7.

“Survive and advance, that’s the name of it,” Corbin Coach Jennifer Parsons said after the game.

“I felt like we had a balanced effort from everybody that got on the floor tonight,” Parsons said.

“We had a couple of girls with eight and nine rebounds and Kayla Wilson had a double-double. It was just a huge effort from start to finish,” she said.

South Laurel, who closed out the season with a 13-14 record, cut the lead to three at the start of the second period, but a 12-4 run by the Lady Redhounds pushed the lead out to double-digits when Ashley hit two free throws with 2:50 left in the first half.

The Lady Redhounds took a 27-18 lead into the dressing room at the half.

Corbin hit a dry spell in the third quarter and only put eight points on the scoreboard.

Kayla Wilson had four points while Ashley and Mallory Wood had two points each.

South Laurel took advantage of the situation and closed to within four by the end of the quarter, 35-31.

Arthur got her team even closer at the start of the fourth quarter with a basket, but Corbin answered as Disney hit a free throw and Kayla Wilson went inside for two points.

Miranda Wilson then extended the lead to six (41-35) with a 3-pointer.

But, South Laurel refused to quit and pulled within one (41-40) before Karlie Blackburn hit a free throw and Ashley followed with a pair from the charity stripe.

Corbin hit 13 of 21 free throws in the quarter to hold off the Lady Cardinals.

The Lady Redhounds were 8-of-10 in the final two minutes.

Miranda Wilson led the Lady Redhounds with 19 points while Kayla Wilson tossed in 15 points.
