Bowling Green 80, Warren East 23
#1
The Lady Purples (20-3, 8-0 District 14) scored 21 straight points after Warren East netted the first basket of the game, winning their 10th in a row with an 80-23 victory at BGHS.
“We started out slow and then came out with a lot of intensity and got in the passing lanes,” BG coach LaVonda Johnson said. “We finished when we needed to and had some players step up big for us.”
Warren East sophomore guard Hannah Parker knocked down a jumper after Bowling Green started the game with two turnovers, but the Lady Raiders (2-25, 0-8) fell behind 21-2 after the first quarter and 48-10 at halftime.
Bowling Green junior guard Brittany Vaughn scored a game-high 26 points, including 24 in the first half.
The Lady Purples’ lone senior, forward Kendra Barnett, capped her Senior Night with 12 points and nine rebounds.
“Kendra is one of those players that can handle whatever’s thrown on her plate, whether it’s starting or coming off the bench,” Johnson said. “For this generation, it’s hard to find players that have that heart. I hope our younger girls will learn from her about will to win.”
Sophomore forward Sydnie Anthony had 11 points, and freshman forward Keely Vincent and sophomore center Makayla Gray each scored eight.
BG outrebounded the Lady Raiders 46-24 and had five players grab at least four boards.
“It’s really good to get those rebounds because tournament time, every team needs it to win,” Barnett said.
Warren East turned the ball over 23 times in the first half and 39 times in the game.
The Lady Raiders were led by sophomore forward Jill Renfro’s eight points. They’ll host Franklin-Simpson at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Bowling Green hosts Caverna at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
