36 u.s.c. § 301
#1
One Federal Law that I would LOVE to see inforced!

Sec. 301. National anthem

-STATUTE-
(a) Designation. - The composition consisting of the words and
music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem.
(b) Conduct During Playing. - During a rendition of the national
anthem -
(1) when the flag is displayed -
(A) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at
the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until
the last note;
(B) members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present
but not in uniform may render the military salute in the manner
provided for individuals in uniform; and
© all other persons present should face the flag and stand
at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not
in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with
their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand
being over the heart; and

(2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face
toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the
flag were displayed.

Difficult to enforce

100,000+ people at THE Ohio State football game, how do you enforce this?
#4
While it sounds good, and just and most of us can agree it's the right thing to do. It would be another unfunded Federal burden on local governments and the court system. Not to mention would cross into violating the First Amendment
#5
unfortunately You can't legislate patriotism

I hate standing at attention during ball games in civilian clothes of course, but I do it anyway because I can't bitch at my soldiers about not doing the right thing if I don't. In uniform, we of course stand at attention. And if it's out side, you render a salute.

But yeah, I agree 100%. Nothing pisses me off more than when I'm at a high school basketball game standing and some dumb kids are sitting behind me talking loud as hell.

And heck...95% of civilians don't even know how to stand at Attention, or even know what it is, lol.

I know it's not feasible to enforce it on everyone at such events. But, I'm like Vundy. It just ticks me off when people can't stand still and be quiet and show repsect for 2 mins. I didn't relise though that it was a law and that is why I posted it.

It's just the right thing to do. I also didn't realize that there is a law, and am surprised that there is.

After looking at the 36 usc 301, I don't think it's a law, but rather a code that we should honor. "Should", not "must" is key here. Still, I can't understand why someone wouldn't want to do it.

The United States Code is the official, subject matter order, compilation of the Federal laws of a general and permanent nature that are currently in force. In accordance with section 285b of title 2 of the U.S. Code, the Code is compiled by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel of the United States House of Representatives. The Code is divided into 50 titles by subject matter. Each title is divided into sections.
