Pulaski County had its long-range radar locked in and shot down North Oldham 62-46 in the opening round of the Republic Bank Holiday Classic on Monday afternoon at Lexington Catholic.Taylor Gover and Matt Smith combined to hit eight of 13 three-pointers, and the Maroons were 10-for-17 overall, in the easy victory."One of our strengths is shooting the basketball," Coach Al Gover said. "Today we got some good kicks and good looks, and were able to knock down shots."Taylor Gover, the coach's nephew, led Pulaski County with 24 points. He was 4-for-6 on threes and 10-for-14 on free throws.Smith was 4-for-7 on threes and had 12 points. Kody Johnson and Tyler Goins each had 11 points and eight rebounds. The Maroons were missing starting post player Spencer Laign (ankle injury), but Cody Wesley was a capable replacement defensively.Al Gover thinks Pulaski County has the makings of a 12th Region contender."We've got some room to grow, some areas to shore up, but the good thing about this bunch is they work hard, practice hard and play hard."North Oldham's shaky play included 20 turnovers and 42 percent shooting. David Levitch led the Mustangs with 16 points. Devon Rowan, a 6-8 senior, had six points and 13 rebounds.
