Wow. Some would say beating a team by 70 in football is ridiculous. But basketball? that's ridiculous!

FBALL, give us some insight. Obviously you were in attendance so tell us how bad and classless it was. A middle school team up my way was raked over the coals for similar score

Nope wasn't there. Listened to a little bit of it on the radio while I was at work.
That being said. Biggs can use the excuse of "getting better at our stuff", as he was quoted after the game. BS. You aren't helping your team or getting better at pressuring an out matched opponent, even by you subs for the whole game. Biggs and the kittens could have named the score on a Rose Hill team, that honestly is probably not as good as some middle school teams, no matter what style they played. 100-30 does nothing but help a few egos.

I think half of Rose Hill's team are middle school kids. Basketball teams seem to be getting younger every year.

Coach Bradley of the Kittens only played his starters for about a quarter, never pressed, and went to a sagging 2-3 zone after the first quarter (in other words, very few steals made on the perimeter) . The leading scorer for the Kittens was a sub who had scored maybe 5 points in the first 5 games the Kittens have played. I was not at the boys game, but the Kittens did not run up the score. The only reason this game was even played was because it was a district game.

I could use Kitty Cats for the boys if you prefer. Last time I checked this was the boys basketball forum. Thanks for the update on the girls game though.

Ashland 40, Rose Hill 30, Matriculators 60
Rocky Stanley wrote a factual article in the DI.
Rose Hill, in its present athletic state, should not play Ashland. You shouldn't sacrifice your students for a few dollars. If they want to stay in the district for the money, do as Ashland did a few years ago when they took two forfeits for district purposes rather than play OJ and Rose Hill.
Biggs didn't run up the score. What else could he do?

He could do what Bradly did and pull back into a zone. That's not what he did though. He did play his subs but he also kept pressuring the ball. Read Rocky's article. Get better at what we do my ***. A 2-3 zone and an 80-40 win would have been plenty sufficient.

Ashland defense stifles Rose Hill
Rocky Stanley 12/14/2011 1:19 AM
A suffocating Ashland defense came at Rose Hill Christian in waves Tuesday night.
Even when Tomcat starters left the court, outmatched Rose Hill couldn’t find any relief against Ashland’s energetic reserves.
It added up to a 100-30 romp for the Tomcats, who forced a whopping 42 turnovers along the way.
“They were rotating too many guys at us,” Rose Hill coach Justin Wagoner said. “They have five fresh guys coming at you all the time. We weren’t able to take the pressure.”
Ashland (4-1) quickly put the game away by reeling off the first 16 points. Even with a 52-18 halftime cushion, the Tomcats’ intensity carried through until the final horn.
“We emphasized that we were coming over here to get better tonight, regardless of the opponent,” said Ashland coach Buddy Biggs, whose team was coming off a Saturday loss to Montgomery County. “Nobody played over 17 minutes for us tonight, and everybody gave great effort.”
Fourteen of 15 players who saw action for the Tomcats got into the scoring column and 13 of them contributed at least one steal to the team’s total of 32.
“Something we talked about was no matter who we are playing, we want to execute our stuff,” Biggs said. “I thought our whole team was focused and ready to go.”
Steven Friley, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, led Ashland’s strong bench showing with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals. He shot 4-for-5 from the field.
“When the subs come in for the starters, we try to match what they do,” Friley said. “We want to play with the same kind of intensity.”
Friley is quickly finding a niche in his first varsity season as one of the Tomcats’ first players off the bench.
“I’m getting in the flow,” he said. “It’s real easy to play with these guys. It’s fun.”
He’s one six Ashland players — including four starters — with Rose Hill basketball roots. Friley played at Rose Hill as a sixth and seventh grader.
“I know a lot of those guys,” Friley said of Rose Hill’s current team. “I have some friends here.”
Corey Gregg scored 18 points, Ryan Whetsel 16 and Cody Withrow 12 for the Tomcats.
Ashland led 81-23 after three quarters and reached the century mark on Tyler Stewart’s jumper with 18 seconds remaining.
The Tomcats have several challenges just ahead. They will host George Rogers Clark on Friday night, then play Beechwood the following afternoon in Anderson Gym. Next week, Ashland heads to Mason County for a tournament.
Rose Hill, winless on the season, shot only 28 percent against the Tomcats’ tight defense.
“We will just have to work on not turning the ball over so much,” Wagoner said.

Respond all you want. Just letting you know it was about the boy kittens not the girl kittens which should have been completely obvious since it was in the boys forum and mentioned coach Biggs.
You might want to learn to lighten up a little bit. That much stress can't be good for you.

The Biggs led boy kittens ran the score up. That should be specific enough to clear up any possible confussion.

Most likly both teams new going in. This game would be over before the first quarter ended. So why come out and press any? There our other things you can work on. Like running set plays four or five time before shooting. You already have four or five games under your belt. I'm sure the full court press was used all those game. Why couldn't it be shelved for one game. And work on other factors of the game that maybe you may be a little weak in.

actually Rose Hill starts 3 seniors and 2 juniors high schoolers, big difference in boys game and girls game. not to be harsh but if you don't want beat that bad then play better offense or play better defense thats the answer, and I've been on both sides of it. with that being said I do have some empathy being that in the girls game Rose Hill was playing mostly middle school kids.

Hard for Rose Hill to compete, being that they appear to be a feeder school for Ashland. Six players? Four starters? Wow......!!!

People can say what they want to say, but I am like you... everyone knew going into this game that Ashland would win handily. Why press at all in a game you know you can win at any margin you want?
As everyone is well aware, LC had a horrible year last year so I am no stranger to this sort of situation. While most every team LC played tried to show as much respect as possible. Some, like the case is here I believe, chose to run up the score and almost seemed to enjoy it.

Although four of Ashland's five starters formerly played at Rose Hill and two of the first ones off the bench also have deep roots at Rose Hill, the old wounds which surfaced ten years ago haven't healed.
Still, I don't blame anyone at Ashland for the final score. The bottom five or so players on a team work hard but rarely see action. They should get a chance in a game such as this one. The reserves shouldn't be instructed to give less than their best effort. They, too, deserve the opportunity to score some points.
If there is any blame to dish out, it should be aimed at Rose Hill for scheduling Ashland. As I mentioned earlier, there is precedent for not playing district foes (both Ashland and Boyd County dodged Rose Hill and Mayo in 2002-2003). Rose Hill should just take forfeits for district seeding purposes, avoid six blowouts, take the fourth seed (that's where they would be anyway), and face only one blowout in the first round of the district. And, of course, they would still qualify for their share of the district and region money.
By the way, when these four Ashland starters, Mike Terry (now of Fairview), Conner Robinson (now of East Carter), Austin Hunt (ineligible at Boyd County by edict of the KHSAA after transfer from Russell), and a few more played middle school ball at Rose Hill, they beat Ashland's middle school by some really embarrassing margins.
I'm certainly no Ashland fan but I must admit that turn about is fair play. If nothing else, Ashland people have long memories.

Surprised no one got hurt. Alot of blowouts can get ugly fast.
12-15-2011, 01:05 PM
So taking it out on a bunch of innocent kids that are now there is all right?
Nobody ever said the subs should not play hard of be told not to score. But there is no reason to keep pressuring the ball. Win by 40 or win by 70. Run the offense play hard but the margin could have been held down by playing a less aggressive style defense. And no, they are not getting any better by practicing it against an over matched team.

LCDawg, you hit the nail on the head. As long as Rose Hill was a doormat, Ashland found the Royals to be quite tolerable. However, when Rose Hill, with Mayo, Dawson et als., beat Ashland on December 15, 2001 (76-67 at Ashland), the whole scenerio changed. That initial win by RH was exactly ten years ago today.
Rose Hill, in my opinion, will likely never again be a serious factor in the 64th District. Therefore, Ashland will tolerate them well. But, it is unlikely that there will ever be any mutual love or mutual respect. The memory of Mayo will always be there.
Still, I don't blame Biggs for the score. When the situation is such as to guarantee humiliation of your kids, you should avoid the situation.

I remember seeing Coach Biggs from his days at Pendleton County. I doubt he would make an effort to run up the score on anybody. Seems like a good guy.
Rose Hill could have just put in OJ, oh wait....
