Figured I would give fans a heads up. Next week's first round match up between the Tigers and Panthers will be played Thursday Night at The WC Hambley Athletic Complex. Kickoff remains 7:30 PM.

Any reason for the move?

One could assume, not having talked to any decision makers, that it woupd benefit the winner of the contest as they have an extra day off for round 2 and the ability to go watch one or more of the Friday Night games.

Thought about that after I hit "send".:eyeroll: Hangin' out at Raceland on a Friday night.

That allowed? Seems like every team could and would do that! Thus, seems like KHSAA would monitor such acts of cheating:biggrin:

You also open yourself up to possible opponents coming in on Thursday. So, you don't really gain an advantage on any opponent because they have the same opportunities that you do.

This thread isn't for predictions yet! We will surely have one Saturday! Just to let the people know the change of date!

This shouldn't be allowed IMO and people will complain.
It does get Paintsville in the gym one day earlier though.
I think half the playoff games should be on Friday and half on Saturday though...West Virginia did this, don't know if they still do...gives the fans 2 games to go to on the weekend...
But when everyone doesn't play on the same night, someone gets a scouting advantage and hence the complaints are sure to come....

This is a pretty common thing. I know it used to happen a lot in the `80s and `90s. Not much different than watching game film, just seeing it first hand and not having to wait.

Pikeville by alot

jetpilot Wrote:This shouldn't be allowed IMO and people will complain.JP, I normally agree with ya, but have to disagree here. At this stage of the playoffs, with the exception of VERY rare long distance trips (usually get further apart the deeper you go in the playoff), if teams play on different nights, no advantage is gained in terms of scouting. Example: Pikeville and Paintsville play next Thursday. If Raceland, Harlan, etc want to come and scout Pikeville, they don't even play until Friday, so no time is lost in terms of prep, since Thursdays are usually walk thru days for Friday anyway. Then, whichever team wins, (most likely Pikeville) can then go and scout their other potential opponents the following night. So no advantage or disadvantage to either team in that regards. Now, to bring up the point of an extra day of rest compared to the team who plays on Friday, there may be SOME merit, but I would argue it is really kind of a moot point, since as I mentioned, Thursdays are typically very light anyway, but then again, the team playing on Thursday has a short week since they typically also played on the Friday before, so it offsets.

Don't matter what night the game is played, Pikeville will roll, they name the score... I just hope both teams come out injury-free...

Players and coaches should be focused on nothing except their current opponent. There are zillions of examples in sports where looking ahead got a team burned. Teams that play early and can then scout their next opponent have a clear advantage over a team that has to scout their early game when they should be preparing for their own game the following night. IMO of course.

^^^I see the points PHSForever is making, and they are valid.
Maybe it's just a matter of personal preference. I would personally prefer to play early and then scout rather than be on a scouting trip the night before I play someone else.

#4 seeds playing #1 seeds are meaningless games, so for the #4's better to go ahead and take your thumping & get the season over with "asap".
Trivia question: Has a 4-seed ever beaten a 1-seed?

That was also under the 4 class system. The districts & playoff teams are a little more watered down now. Not saying it won't happen because it could, but it's a lot less likely.
