31 BASE
We aligned our d-tackle to the strength in a 3 tech, outside eye of the guard to the strength side.( create guard -tackle double team)
We aligned our d-tackle away from the strength on the outside eye of the center away from the call.( 1 tech.) to create a center-guard double team. D-tackles were taught attack half a man and by being gap players(3tech,1tech) to create double teams, split the double team, and if you feel your self getting driven, Drop on the double. As long as my d-tackles were creating double teams, my backers aren't getting blocked!
That's the advantage to playing shade tech.'s, you force the double team because most football teams use the gap, down or inside, over, nearbacker rule. By playing shade tech.'s (3tech,1 tech) you force alot of teams by rule to double down on you therefor leaving your sam and will free to read. Play your d.e.s tight! dont put them loose out there just waiting to be kicked out by a guard. Play them tight, D.e.'s inside foot just inside the t.e.s inside foot, intern his outside foot will be just outside the t.e.'s outside foot. His job is to punch and squeeze the t.e. down, don't give him a release or a release on our backers. The whole objective of 31 base is to absorb your front 6 with our front 4 and let our backers make the plays! By playing shade tech.'s ( 3 and 1 tech.'s) we can achieve this. We also will still play 31 base, bump our end down to a 5 tech.(outside eye of tackle) walk a backer up to a 9 tech on t.e.
Now d.e. has c gap, qb responsibility. The outside backer walked up( rover) has d-gap to sideline, pitchman on option. So basically we can give you a 40 look or 50 look without changing responsibility.
how do you playthe 4-4?
