Mountain Examiner Top 10

Pruitt was a HB last year for Belfry.

Like your rankings otherwise for the most part. Not sure Whitley belongs up there though.

Thanks for the note Wink
I don't know why in the world I put Pruitt's name there....
They had the West kid at QB last year.

Looks good Zaga.
I dont understand why someone wouldnt put Whitley there as stated before.
Its not whos gonna have the prettiest record at the end of the year, IMO it should always be the BEST teams. For example, you dont think Whitley should be up there, who would beat them in a heads up match upfor that spot thats not on the list.
You cant honestly think Breathitt at number 10 would beat them. Whitleys too big and if it wasnt for Harlan Co. last year Whitley probably would have had another region championship in the trophy case.
Thanks Zaga for not doing it like WYMT. I understand rewarding the kids who are 9-1 or 10-0 but lets say a breathitt does that and Harlan Co. goes 8-2 and gets upsert a couple of times. Does that mean Breathitt would beat Harlan Co.? NO.

And just so everyone knows....

Unfortunately I'm not going to be covering the schools in the Pulaski County area....

It's not that I don't consider you guys the mountains or I don't want to cover you.

It's just too far of a drive for me to cover games, they aren't covered on the radio where I'm from, and there's a lot of teams on those school's schedules that aren't in my coverage area either.
Maybe when it comes to basketball season I'll have a job that would allow me to travel a little further through the week, get you guys in the rankings, and get some coverage for your schools.

I apologize Sad

Okay, now that I know that the Rockcastle-Pulaski County area will not be covered, that makes me agree with you list more. I was thinking about Southwestern, Rockcastle County or Somerset as possibly moving in at some point. I am assuming you are covering everything from Clay County to Pikeville and from Johnson County to the Tennessee border. Correct?

With no Pulaski County, Somerset, or Rockcastle County being included I like Whitley County more. Those were the 3 teams that immediately came to mind as well as a Pike Central team who is absolutely loaded following a squad who only had two losses (one @ Belfry and the other in the playoffs in the midst of KHSAA turmoil)

Yea, i would have put Rock ahead of them. I dont like Pulaski at all this year, and dont think they will make any noise. With Somerset, i guess we will find out because Whitley plays Somerset this year.

Pike Central and Pikeville were in the mix when I worked out the Top 10.
I'm going to cover Rockcastle this season even though they are kind of far away.
They have always been a fixture in the mountains and if you look at their schedule they constantly play teams in my coverage area. This year they play Sheldon Clark, Whitley County, Estill County, Perry County Central, Knox Central, and Clay County.
I can actually cover them and rate them based on their play here in the mountains. When it comes to the Pulaski County teams I would have to drive all the way over there to watch them play teams like Lincoln County and Hopkinsville.
It was a lost minute decision to scrap the Pulaski County teams and I hated to do it.....
but in order to cover football in Eastern Kentucky as good as one man can with no help it had to be done.

No problems, it's tough getting around to all the mountain schools even if you're not including Pulaski County area. Even WYMT has trouble doing it.

and they have multiple company vehicles and a huge staff lol
It's hard for me too because I am pretty much tied down to being at every Perry Central home game because of a free tailgate I've been running for years.
In a year or two I'm going to be looking into doing a game of the week and bringing the tailgate there while I do a live podcast over the internet.

It's a big endeavor lol.....
but that might be something to look forward to next year.

Sheldon Clark at 7? They lost everyone.

Breathitt should be higher than 10.I would put them over Pburg and Sheldon Clark.

I cant believe you dont got Perry Central in there. They are a lot better than Sheldon Clark and Whitley.

Good list. Glad to see Knox getting some love on somones list.

PS...Sheldon Clark dont belong in there.

Sheldon Clark made some additions this offseason and if Rock beats them they'll probably be on the way out and Rock will be on the way in.
Whitley stomped on Perry last year so I couldn't put Perry over top of them.

I agree with you in the bold. I'm not big on Sheldon Clark right now. Smith will deff help them out this year but graduation will hurt the Cards this season IMO. They get a chance to prove it tomorrow against Rock.

I like Breathitt too, I think they should be around 7. I'd put them in where SC is. I believe they'll continue to climb the ladder this season.

As for Knox, I absolutely agree. There should be no MT top 10 without Knox.

I believe Perry will be making an appearance next week!

Good Job Zaga, keep it up, I like seeing your work!

Zaga, in all honesty i think your closer on your rankings than i am.
After learning what ive learned about Whitley over the past couple of weeks, i think it would be safe to say there not a top 10 team in the mountains right now.
They would have been had everything went according to schedule but there just way to young. The offensive line is there only strong point right now.
In 3 years, (if everyone stays) than i think Whitley will be in the situation Harlan Co. is this year, but right now, i would actually put PCC ahead of them....I know, I know, Ive lost my mind...

:worthy: Thanks EKUAlum05. Glad to know someone else understands. These boys have really been working hard & with the addition of Coach Mike to the staff, they definitely are excited! Can't wait til tonight! Hope for an injury free season & expect to see a much faster team! Thanks again!
