Former Whitley County Star Walking On At UK
#1
Former Whitley County runningback Cody Jones transferred from Morehead State where he was on scholarship to walk on at UK. And in a short amount of time he has already moved up to number 1 on UK's depth chart at the fullback position to replace Moncel Allen.
All i can say is wow. Congrats man. This is a remarkable journey your on. Hope to see you starting at the fullback spot next year.
Jones was the captain of the Whitley team that finished 12-2 in 2008 that lost to eventual 5A state champ Highlands in the state semis and whose only other loss was to 4A state champion Bell Co. Many remember him as a great defensive player as well leading the colonels in tackles that season while playing linebacker.
Heres the story..

They don't give football scholarships

I watched him play against Letcher Central and he was tough. Good luck and I hope to see him play for the Big Blue this year.

Saw him run all over Woodford Co. ,the boy is a player.

Freshman DJ Warren out of Alcoa is most likely going to be the starting fullback this year but one has to hope Cody does well and makes a push for some playing time. He was the lone FB on the roster during the spring so that gives him the leg up heading into fall camp. Here's to wishing him the best.

I wouldnt be surprised to see him playing some linebacker before his days at UK are over especially if the warren kid is good enough to start now.
I always thought he was a much better defensive player and has great speed as well.

I talked to Cody on Friday and he is real excited about this opportunity.

Great job. To take Allen out he must really be working hard. Lets hope he steps it up and competes for the spot against Allen and the DJ kid.

I can't wait to see him play this year!!

Joker: "If we played Western tomorrow, Jones would be our starting fullback. He's a headcase and will flat put you on your back".

Awesome story! Best of luck!

Some of their better players get alot of grant and/or aid money for tuition. I would speculate that 20-25 kids there are fully funded.
