Gregg Popovich Not Moved By Rajon Rondo's Heroism
#1
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich isn't buying into comparisons of Boston point guard Rajon Rondo and former NBA star Willis Reed.

"It's like Rondo is the next coming of Willis Reed, the thing he did and the character he showed," Popovich said.

Here are more of Popovich's comments from MySanAntonio.com:

“It’s really been hard to watch the playoffs and have them make Rondo out like Willis Reed,” Popovich said Thursday, in wide-ranging interview with the Express-News. “It’s like, Manu couldn’t even play the first game (against Memphis), and we probably shouldn’t have played him again. He went out there and worked through it, and you didn’t hear any of that kind of crap.”

Douche Bag, Give credit when credit is due.

^ Say whatever you want, it was more media and inability to play. Rondo toughed it up, but he was able to use his arm. It's not Rondo's fault, it was the media and that's what Pop's is referring to and he is 100% RIGHT!

Aslan Wrote:Why would he even comment on this? Spurs not getting enough attention were they got bounced out early.

Because the announers made it out like the Celtics chances hinged on Rondo and his elbow and made it out like Rondo braved through something heroic. Yet, the announcers made no similar comments about Manu and his exact same injury and the fact that he never missed a minute of the playoffs. His opinion is dead-on.

I'm not taking anything away from Rajon, but the media made it out like he was doing something that no other NBA player had ever done before - play through injury!

HE dislocated his elbow, And came back a quarter later>? Thats not heroic? IF this would have been lebron, wade, kobe they would have been considered god like. Its about time someone else gets media attention.

No reason to be a drama queen about it though. I hate the Spurs and everything they stand for.

Popovich is stupid.
Ive never liked his arrogant ass.
I guess looking at how the spurs are going to have to completley rebuild because every star they have is older than shit makes him want to run his mouth about something.
I wouldnt care to see the spurs and lakers never have another winning season again. EVER.

Popovich shouldn't have said anything but Rondo shouldn't have been on the court, he was killing the Celtics...

I know what you mean.
Rondo is spectacular...
but he isn't so good that he should start without one of his arms.
Playing through an injury is something that everyone wants to do, but there are times when you are hurting your team if you try to play.
