Jimmy Chaffin Commits to UK!
#1
Jimmy went for a visit on saturday the 28th and UK asked him to commit as a walkon until they could get a scholarship or maybe work out a red or grayshirt for him. Chaffin told me yesterday he was excited about the atmosphere and told me several schools he turned down to join the program. Such as Marshall Louisville Union ***berland Cambelsville Eastern Western and a few others further away from home. When i asked him wut position he would be playing he said they r concentrating on special teams for now but db and possibly wide reciever in the future. Good Lubk Jimmy and congratulations i know ill be pulling for ya.

The boy was good but I don't know what he would play in college, or at UK I should say. I think that Marshall would have been a good fit for him. But good Luck Jimmy, you are definately a football player!

Marshall has had a much better program than UK the past few years.

Congrats...I hope he makes it on the actual roster. Hard life for a walk-on, but if he's got the kind of "heart" everyone at LC says he does, he'll make it.

BUT...as good an athlete as he is, does ANYBODY outside of Knox County really believe this kid is going to end up competing for playing time against athletes like Keenan Burton at WIDE RECEIVER? I know he looked phenomenal at LC, but that was against PINEVILLE, ***BERLAND, etc. Will be a little different up against Auburn and Florida.

I see FULLBACK in his future there possibly. MAYBE middle linebacker. Tough, hard-nosed kids with above-average athletic ability, who can get quite a bit BIGGER and still run can make it at those spots (see Nebraska in the 80s and 90s).

Would love to see this small-town kid make good though!

Jimmy Chaffin looked phenomenal against any team he lined up against. This past year against Somerset who was a state semi-finalist, Chaffin had close to 400 yards of total offense. Chaffin had big game against top ten 2A Leslie County, also the team that knocked them out of the playoffs Sheldon Clark, 2A power Middlesboro, and 4A Whitley County, playing a huge role in LC beating the Red Storm for the first time in 15 years. As a Sophomore Chaffin in the regional championship game against Pikeville, had over 100 yards passing and rushing 50 yards receiving at int on defense. Chaffin is a dedicated person, he worked his tail off last off season to better himself, and I'm sure the same for this off season. Just because who he plays doesn't mean he can't play at the D1 level. Class A district 7 also saw Durrell White of Middlesboro, and George Massey of ***berland in recent years play at UK, and both play quite of bit. Nolan DeVaughn of Corbin was the starting center of UK when they went to the Outback Bowl. If Jimmy sets his mind to it, he will seeing playing time at UK before he is done.

The difference is, is that he will be in the S.E.C, and Marshall is in the CUSA. A little difference. And last year Marshall was ranked 101 out of 119 and U.K. was 70. Not bragging rights but stats don't lie. BUt anyways Jimmy decided to commit to U.K. and I wish him the best of luck!

Does anyone from eastern Ky ever get a scholarship to UK and actually get to start as a freshman?
#11
Marshall is a really good school to go to for sports
#12
yea david jones does
#13
Hasn't he been playin' for special teams?

The SEC and the CUSA does not even compare. Marshall did have a nice run and may return to that but at the present time there program is no better than UK's.
