Whitley County 69 South Laurel 59
#1
Whitley went into South tonight and controlled the entire game leading by as much as 17.
Whitley looked good and appears to be one of the favorites in the 50th district.
looking forward to matching up with Corbin.

Game was kinda in doubt when the lead was cut to 4 in the 3rd. Whitley was up 16 in the 2nd qtr when Wright went with a young lineup. Whitley really had trouble adjusting to the much quicker lineup and the lead was trimmed to 5 at half. Whitley show alot of poise in the 2nd half, something I havnt seen from them in the past, and maintained the lead. Whitley is a very solid ball club but will have to improve to beat Clay. The younger guys at South look very athletic and fast, they will be up and down i'm sure, but they may just be a team everyone in the 13th wants to avoid come district or region.

Agreed, there was some moments where South fought back but, it was at South, and that means South will shoot a lot of free throws as they did. Whitley seemed to slow down Souths comeback attempts by knocking down crucial shots in the third and fourth.
Souths younger players looked better at times i thought. The Mitchell kid really knocked down some big threes just as he did in the jv game.
This is the first time Whitley has beaten South since 94 i believe, which they didnt play for many years, but thats still a long time, I know Whitley hasnt beaten corbin since 95, hopefully that will change as well. Seems as though Whitley has the best chance of winning a district title this year as they have had since there last one over 20 years ago.

I believe ive seen you post about Knox before or seem to be knowledgeable about KC . This is a little off topic, but i was wondering where Knox's former coach Elam ended up? I didnt here anything after he was replaced by Evans.

I'm pretty sure he is still in Knox county.

Congrat's to Whitley County, on a good win. I really think South Laurel's Young Gun's will be hard to beat before long. The Sander's kid looked a lot more in the flow of the game with the younger players. I thought the Mitchell Kid played well hiting 3 big 3's for South. Radar, Salvey and Schaser kid's bought a lot of energy to the game. IF' Wright plays this bunch of kids I see them really coming togather by seasons end.

I thought so but figured he might have got a coaching job this year.

If I'm not mistaken his wife is the volleyball coach at Union College.

Jan. 14th Whitley @ Corbin
Feb. 4th Corbin @ Whitley

They actually play South again before they'll even play Corbin for the first time. Not sure why these games were scheduled like that this year, they usually get Corbin in December.
