I agree completely agree with your last paragraph, but the rest I have to disagree. I just don't think it's that complicated.

China and America will not goto war over this. China doesnt want it to happen because they will have to deal with the millions of starving refugees from NK.

I think the hope is that the country falls and international support helps the South make the the country into 1 Korea, because there are going to be millions of starving people.

The fear is that either some radicals get control and go to war immediately, and this especially becomes even worse if its 6mths to a year from now and the North has the means to deliver their nukes accurately and take out Japan and SK.
