George Fant commits to WKU
#1
Warren Central forward George Fant took visits to Iowa and Penn State and considered several other school out of the state of Kentucky.

But in the end, Fant isn't leaving Bowling Green.

The 6-foot-8 Fant, considered the top homegrown in-state prospect in the Class of 2011, has given a verbal commitment to Western Kentucky University.

Fant averaged 15 points and eight rebounds a game as a junior when he helped the Dragons to the Fourth Region title. He was named second-team All-State as a junior.

Western now has three commitments, including Deng Leek and Derrick Gordon, in the '11 class.

Nice to see him stay in state, but I don't understand why he passed up an opportunity to play in the Big 10 to do so.

Not to slight Penn State, but that's a program with 8 NCAA appearances all-time, and only three in the past 45 years. They're 29-71 in the conference under their current coach. They have one Sweet 16 appearance since 1955.

WKU has 21 NCAA appearances, 5 this decade, 8 since 1990. 2 Sweet 16 appearances since 1978 (1993 & 2008), and have made the second round each of the last two trips to the tournament. Yes, they're a Sun Belt team, but they're vastly better as a program than Penn State. This ain't Michigan State he was turning down.
