Props to Greenup. Game was alot close than the score shows.. The big horses for Greenup are very good and the backs are too.. Passing game lacks as I expected.. But game was a good one to watch.. Especially in the first half! The onside kick call by Ashland was a gutsy move for sure!

Wow... that's all I can say Greenup co. Is going to give everyone they play fits!!! Man.... They are as advertised, great backfield very good up front. Overall very solid team, the audibles at the line scrimmage gave the Tomcat-D fits but they finally adjusted to it Logan Salow made some big plays by staying at home on that backside to stop that cut back they kept burning us for big yardage in the first half. Tomcats were just to much in the end, withrow, whetsel, nunley, tremendous hands an hard running by stafford, an Rogers. Sam hunter showed why he is the leader of this team never got shook.

I don't think it was designed as a onsides kick, squib kick but it worked out an bounced right off of the big guys back to Ashland.

If Greenup would have cut out the fumbles, it sounded like they would have won this game. It was closer than the final score. You were right on a couple of points. Greenup got their 150 yards rushing in the 1st half and it sounded like Marsh was the best player on the field. Greenup is in for a good season.

Greenup played an excellent game. They exposed weaknesses in Ashland's defense, and exploited their advantage on the line of scrimmage.

Ashland's linebacker play was very weak, and (without seeing video of the game) it looked like Greenup's O-line was dominating Ashland's defensive tackles. I would never have thought that would have happened. Again, the video of the game will reveal what was really happening, but Greenup appeared to be winning the battle at the line.

Ashland's offense did a great job of spreading the field and then hitting the open receivers. You always learn more about your team from the first game of the season than you do at any other time. Greenup learned that they are better than most people thought (and they will improve as the season goes on), while Ashland will learn who is getting the job done - and who is not - once they see the film.

The good news for Ashland is that they have plenty of time to work on the bugs before they have to play Johnson Central.

Not to take anything away from greenup co , But those fumbles they needed to cut out, well they didn't have much choice in it cause they were just flat getting hit an knocked the ball flying especially that last one that boy got the smack laid down on him an the ball popped out an Stafford got to redeem himself after fumbling on the play before after a large gain. My hat is off to greenup co they played a great game.

As far as the best player on the field? He is a tremendous runner, but hunter to withrow was pretty impressive not to mention whetsel an nunleys catches.

Greenup Co has a very solid football team, but the Tomcats were just to much in the end.

I was just dwelling more on the positives that Greenup can take away from this game. I think everyone knew Ashland was going to be good, although allowing Greenup to run on them like this may have exposed a minor chink in the armor.

As far as the best player on the field comment, I just based that on what Dicky Martin said at some point in the game calling Marsh the "fastest" player on the field. So maybe that should have been the word I used..."fastest" rather than "best".

I don't think it was that much of a "chink" in the armor as it was early season chemistry class, though your point is well taken.

As was mentioned earlier and what everybody knew coming into the game last night was that Ashland was going to be inexperienced at the linebacker positions. This was sort of a baptism by fire so to speak and was exactly what the doctor ordered for the Ashland defense.

The wild and woolly first half gave way to a more conventional second half as personel adjustments and the players themselves began to rise to the challenge as the game went on. Several for Ashland emerged last night as rising defensive players, Salow#15, Lucas#85, Senters#53, Watts#35 and Justice#60 all had a good game along with Gregg#80. Nothing else I know of could have provided the challenge better than the Muskies did last night! A terrific line surge and a very good backfield really brought it last night for the greatly improved Greenup team.

Just saying that a lot of guys grew up a lot last night for Ashland who started at least six players for the first time on defense against a quality Greenup team. Added to the mix later, (soon) will be Prichard and Bush to the secondary, both of these guys will make a difference when they return. I'm not taking a thing from Greenup when I say this but Ashland's line will be fine. They got pushed around no doubt early, but they got tired of it and did way better as the game went on. I was particularly impressed with RJ Johnson's game last night and didn't see any backup in him or anybody else. They do need to fine tune and gel but the line will do their job this year. The benefits of good weight training shone like the noon day sun as Greenup owned the LS early. Ashland lifts year round as well.

I can't see how the Ashland faithful could have been disappointed as they departed the field last night, the veterans all turned in another solid performance and the rising players gave reason for excitiment as they played their hearts out on a very gritty effort. I saw quite a few big hits by both squads last night and I thought many of them were delivered by a gelling Ashland defense that though still has a long way to go, is coming on fast and strong.

WE are all hoping for a speedy recovery for Steven Ramey who played well on defense last night and if memory serves had a fumble recovery shortly before his injury.

Congrats to Tomcats

I loved how GC plantoon the D-Line and also the 3-5-3 look they have. The only thing I saw besides the fumbles was the blitz they brought in the 4th quarter on 3rd down and long with no safety over top(Hunter to Withrow). On that play the worst thing that could happen, happened. Maybe it's me but cover2 or cover3 would have been better there. Anything underneath, screen, run or the QB rolling out of the pocket doesn't hurt as bad as getting beat deep. Also Ashland had no kicking game so you didn't have to worry about a field goal. The score was 28all at that time. That play changed the ball game. Overall I didn't think GC was going to be this good. I look for GC to be 8-2 or 7-3 with a at least one playoff win.
