Not sure what Mason is suppose to have this year, but it seemed Ashland had there way with them. Although they were I think a typical Mason team... well coached an plenty fast. I'm sure they will win a bunch of games this year. What does everyone think about these two teams this year?

Ashland 36
Mason 14
Mason 14

I think you're right, Mason will be fine this year. Ashland was better prepared tonight than I thought they would be even though they didn't look like it at the first of the game. An onside kick by Mason resulted in a turnover for Ashland on the first play of the game and a touchdown for the Royals on their first play/rush from scrimmage. After that Ashland's defense settled down and limited Mason to only one more TD while their offense was scoring 36.
I thought both teams had good speed. It's almost hard to believe how much good a preseason scrimmage does a team, wish we had one more before we start but, since we don't, one will do. Ashland got a lot of people in the game and I thought the majority of the players enjoyed the experience and had good success.
Best I can recall Mason punted 4 or 5 times and Ashland didn't punt. Don't read too much into the final score, Mason will come out guns blazing.

I think Ashland is extending the reach of counties on the eastern side of Lexington AND Southern Ohio where they should be considered "the best" team for the next few years. They should be favored in and win all of the games on their regular season schedule this year. The only ones that wouldn't be considered momumental upsets are Ironton (because it's at Ironton) and Johnson Central (because they seem to own Ashland for some reason). All this analysis from a scrimmage result, huh? :-) Nah...I think everyone knew before the season that Ashland is set for the next few years. Regular season losses, or even close games for that matter, should be few and far between.
HOWEVER...given the "all or nothing" championship-centric world we live in, I still think it's a shame they can't get to be a part of some sort of district realignment so their players and team could get some recognition on a state-wide level. The county cutoff for them where they can be considered "the best" team just so happens to end at Campbell, Kenton, and Boone in Northern Kentucky with the very teams they have to play in round 1 and 2 of the playoffs, namely Highlands. Heck, last year Dixie Heights beat them 41-14 in round 1 of the playoffs after Ashland pretty much stormed through the regular season schedule.
Didn't I read something a few years ago about them being the smallest school in 5A? Is there some possibility they could drop down a level and get away from the Northern Kentucky schools?

I can't wait until Ashland opens up this weekend against greenup. They have been alot of hype from greenup fans saying Ashland will get beat by 10. What's everybody thoughts after the mason co. Win

This and Hopkinsville were IMO the weekend's most surprising scrimmage results. Some teams keep it pretty close to the vest and some go all out in scrimmages, so hard to say for sure but very interesting.
