Holmes 52, Simon Kenton 33
#1
After two quarters, Holmes trailed Simon Kenton 18-17. (Talk about a lackluster half of basketball.) Holmes pressed SK in the third quarter and outscored the Pioneers 23-4. Game, set, match.

Completely different ball club in the second half, this has been a trend dating back to the opening day with beechwood, Holmes stuggles to put two halfs of basketball most of the season. When they play well, they can really run it up on anyone, but when they play bad they can get beat by anyone.

What is even crazier about the halftime score is that holmes was up 8-0 to start the game off. When they get teams down they let them back in the game, that is something that if not fixed by March could lead to an early exit.

Congrats to Holmes. Agree with earlier post, Holmes a very talented team. A dangerous trend that allows teams to hang around. Come post season could be a dangerous trend.

Dogs used a 16-0 run to start the 3rd to put the Neers away.

With Holmes up 33-18, both teams traded baskets to make it 37-22, but another 10-0 run by the Dogs put the game out of reach at 47-22.

SK would make 2 free throws to make it 47-24 with around 4 minutes left in the 4th and Henley would clear his bench and let the reserves finish the game.

Simon Kenton 9 9 4 11 33

Holmes 11 6 23 12 52

Simon Kenton (12-11) -- Chambers 9, Doss 6, Gray 4, Mullen 3, Rabe 3, Mulberry 2, Sorrell 2, Basham 2, Carroll 2.

Holmes (21-5) -- Pittman 18, R. Johnson 15, J. Johnson 7, Herndon 4, Slusher 2, McClendon 2, Knox 2, Avery 1, Amison 1.

BTW, Holmes won this one without Rice playing.

Not sure why, but he was on the bench and not dressed for the game. I assume he's in Henley's doghouse for a game or two.

Good win over an extremely overmatched Pioneers team

Great to see the Buldogs finish the season with a win, not that I expected them to lose or any thing. Now its time to play :flame:

With this win, Holmes wins the NKAC Division I title with a record of 7-1.

I believe the standings for D1 were as followed:

Holmes (21-5): 7-1
Boone Co (17-7): 9-1
Scott (15-9): 6-2
Covcath (16-11): 6-3
Conner (15-11): 6-6
Ryle (13-11): 5-5
Campbell Co (14-9): 4-6
Dixie Heights (11-14): 3-6
Simon Kenton (12-11): 2-8
Cooper (4-24): 0-11

Holmes wins by virtue of the head to head W over Boone.

Not hurt for sure, during warm-ups he was dribbling a ball on the side, he jumped up a few times pinning the ball on the back of the back board, he was smiling and appeared to be in good spirits, the whole time laughing with coach John Wimzie. Not sure exactly why he didn't play. It was senior night so he probably would have been coming off the bench if he did play anyway, but him in street clothes confused me.

Good win for Holmes. Heading into the district and regional play with some momentum. Wonder how far they can get, they will have the target on their back.

Not 100% sure but I think it may have had something to do with the Boone game. Just a guess though. Maybe tezzy859 can fill us in?
