Ashland vs. Mason County
#1
thought/ predictions
#2
Should be a barn burner, I favor Mason County by an under 10 margin.
#3
It will be hard to beat the Tomcats in the AIT finals and I bet they have the same 3 refs that have called both of their games so far and only called 9 team fouls in last nights win over Cov. Cath.

Told my father the same thing last night after Ashland won, no way Mason County wins this game.

They will not be allowed to play their physical half court defense, the fouls will rack up against them early and often.

I can only hope Ashland is up big and the game is over by the 4th quarter. I do not want this game coming down to the last few minutes because we know which way the calls will go.

Good news is, Mason County gets a rematch in two weeks at the Fieldhouse.

I would truly be stunned if the Royals pull this off.

I like the way the Royals have played this year, I take MC by 8

I can't wait for this game, been waiting all day long. Whoever wins is going to have to fight hard. Saw the second half of Mason's game with Brossart and Mason looks good but I just don't think they can hang. I've been wrong before though.

I'll say Ashland by 4 in a nail-biter.

I think I'll just skip the game, since Mason County has already been cheated by the refs. I was hoping it would be a good game, but obviously, Ashland will finish the game without a foul, while the last five players on Mason's bench will end the game in a 2-3 zone, trying desperately not to pick up that final foul for any of them.

Heck, there'll probably be at least three technical fouls called on Mason before the game even starts.

If Ashland doesn't shoot at least 50 free throws tonight, there should be an investigation.

Heck, the refs will probably cut the tires on the Mason County bus, just to be sure that the message is clear.

I think it was in the 1997 AIT that one of the refs snuck over to the visitors bench and cut the Achilles tendon of the starting center on the team that was up by 2 on Ashland.

I remember four or five years ago, when one of the refs went up into the stands and drug a baby from it's mother's arms, took it under the stands and came out with blood dripping from his mouth. Needless to say, the infant was never found.

This one could get ugly.

I believe it was a couple years ago in a district game against Rose Hill held in Ashland, the Tomcats went to the foul line over 30 times, Rose Hill around 5. Just a wacky coincidence, right?

Ashland has a good team, has a great chance to capture their first 16th region title in a long time. I like their coach and respect the great tradition they have had, still the winningest school in Kentucky high school basketbally history.

Mason County is a borderline top 20 team this year and will lose their fair share of games when it's all said and done.

We shall see how it plays out tonight.

Hey I don't really have a dog in this fight but I was at that district game and it was last year, and the FT's were something like 37 to 13 but Rose Hill lost due to coaching more than the officials. But to add fuel to this fire one of the officials in that district game last year is the one that I will guarantee will be one of the refs tonight just as he has been in both of the AIT games the past two days. But hey it is Ashland's tournament and I guess they can get who they want to call. Good luck to both teams. I hope Ashland does win since they are from our region and maybe I will be long and the official I am talking about does not call. I would not bet on that though.Confusedhh:

Good luck to Coach Biggs and the Tomcats

Thanks for the stat, I knew it was something obscene. It really didn't matter who won the game because it was Elliott's year, but to take the game away from the kids like that, just ridiculous. I didn't realize it was last year, with all the transfers and off the court problems, seems like a lifetime ago.

Anyhoo, I'm a big time Mason County fan and I was worried about Ashland when it became obvious early on that the Cats has a good team this year.

You factor all the "extra" stuff, yeah, I'm a tad worried about how the game will play out.

I have no problem tipping my hat to the better team, I'm not one of those people who can't give proper respect to the better team.

But there is a long history at this gym and that's why I posted what I did.

Biggs has Ashland playing as hard as anyone in the state, but the Setty kid is
going to be a tough matchup for the Tomcats, but last I checked, the game was being played on Bobby Kouns court, will be interesting to see if Setty is allowed to play, if Mason County doesn't get into foul trouble, I would expect them to pull out an exciting win. Going to be a lot of turnovers in this game.
Could come down to the charge/block calls late in the game.

I'm guessing Billman, Hall, & O'Hare in the finals...

I'm obviously not from Ashland but I get tired of hearing that the refs cheat for Ashland... Every team in the 16th uses the same refs... This is not Ohio where the refs at your games may be teachers or administrators at that school... Sure refs make bad calls at times, both ways... 99.9% of the time the team that plays the best wins... Stop using refs as scapegoats... If a 32 minute game comes down to one or two calls, the teams are obviously evenly matched and the game could have gone either way regardless of the "calls"...

I have been involved in games where the fouls are lopsided... Sometimes in our favor, sometimes not... It generally has to do with the style of play of the teams on the floor... In all honesty, if officials called the game "by the book" we wouldn't have many players left at the end of games... The game has been allowed to get VERY physical... We tell our guys that they have to adapt to how the game is called... At the end of the game, we may not have liked all of the calls (GUARANTEED), but we realize that some went our way too... As I stated earlier, 99.9% of the time, the players decide the outcome... Not the refs, coaches, or fans...

Not in the AIT that is an invitational tournament they can get who they want as long as they are licensed in the state and by KSHAA. I would be very surprised if Mr. Kouns is not one of the officials. I hope Ashland wins I always root for the 16th region teams, like I said its their tournament so the host teams usually gets the breaks. I don't think Mason will be cheated out of the game I do not think we have any officials that will do that. But if Ashland was playing in a tournament at Mason I am sure if call could go either way it would probably go Mason's way just as it should at Ashland tonight.
#16
I know that teams can get their own officials at their tournaments...That's why you see a 9th region? official, O'Hare, calling in the 16th this week... You seem to have softened your stance that Mason will be at a decided disadvantage due to officiating... You've seen enough ball to know that my point about players deciding the games 99.9% of the time is true...

Regardless of who is officiating, (I really don't expect Kouns to be on the game), it should be fun to watch and the team that plays the best tonight will win...
#17
Well, I was off a little... Officials are Billman, O'Hare and Sublett...
#18
You were closer than me. Good luck to the Tomcats.

Well, I guess I'll have to eat a little crow on this thread. As many of you predicted, Kouns cheated the jersey's off of the visitors tonight. He didn't even try to hide it. He never called one foul on an Ashland player tonight.

Oh the shame.
