13th Region Tournament at Southeast KY Expo
#1
I saw a story on the news today about voting on the possibility of playing the 13th Region Tournament at the Southeast KY Expo in Corbin. They said the vote has been postponed. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this.

Personally, I don't see this happening. Schools in that area might be for it, but I don't know about the others. Why give up the home court advantage and the possibility of bringing in some revenue for your county from restaurants, etc.?

The 15th region is held at the East Ky Expo Center and I think the kids love it. I know as a fan who likes to watch every game I love the comfort of watching the games. I think tickets are just a dollar higher at $6. Concessions are alot higher. Parking is alot easier. There is pros and cons with both sides. I think from looking at the pictures that the East Ky expo has alot better floor seating than the Southeast Ky expo.

From a fans prospective I would like to see the tournament held at the arena in Corbin. I feel it would be the most fan friendly place to hold the tournament. While the parking may not be perfect, I would guess that it is better than any of the 13th regions high school's parking situations. However, as a former citizen of Harlan County I can tell you that people in the Corbin, London, Somerset area have this misconception that it is a much shorter drive from Harlan to London/Corbin than it is from London/Corbin to Harlan.

I spoke with a couple of the coaches/admin from some of the smaller schools and it seems that the vote will come down to how they rotate who gets to host the Tourney and how the proceeds are done.

You hit the nail on the head at the end of your post. I have no doubt that the arena would be a wonderful place to play the tournament, but it isn't and would never be fair to the schools on the other side of the region from a travel perspective. Sure, a trip from Harlan or Bell County to Corbin/London isn't a bad trip at all, but it wouldn't be fair to have to make that trip every year. I'm sure all aspects of this are being took into consideration and I trust that everyone will get a fair chance to express their feelings.

It sure would be nice to have all reserved chairback seats though.
