Who are some of the top players this upcoming season in NKY?
06-08-2009, 09:00 PM
- Miles Simpson (Simon Kenton/HB) currently holds offers from Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Central Michigan, and Western Kentucky.
- Austin Collinsworth (Highlands/WR/DB) currently holds offers from Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Stanford, and Vanderbilt.
- Nick West (Conner/QB) doesn't hold any division offers but has thrown for nearly 4000 yards over the past two season and has a D-1 frame at 6'3 195.
- Tyler Grubbs (Highlands/OL) currently holds offers from Troy & Western Kentucky.
Just to get things started.

- Charles Quanoo Boone County (SR) RB 1600+ yards last year.
- Chris Kelly Newport Catholic (JR) RB/LB steps in and takes over for his brother at RB. Led team in tackles as a Sophomore. 4th brother, all three previous are scholarship football players.
- Zak Koenenger Campbell County (SR) LB/OL - Cincinnati
- Conner Hempel Ryle (JR) Best pure passer in NKY. Has D1 size, lauded for his form and poise. Has been invited to most every major passing combo

Brandon Roller from Highlands also has to be on this list. He played linebacker and tight end. Was having a great season for the Birds until he suffered a severe knee injury against Ashland in the playoffs on the Birds opening drive. Was by far the Birds most physical and gifted linebacker and would have made a big improvement to the Birds run defense had he played against Whitley and JC. Doesn't have any offers yet, as most schools are taking a wait and see approach on his knee. He did attend a camp at Central Michigan last weekend and I'm told the coaches up there were very impressed with what they saw and were amazed at how well and how quickly he's recovered from the ACL and MCL surgery. I expect him to get D-1 offers. He measured 6-1, 225 and I believe had the fastest time of all lbers at the camp in their version of the shuttle.
Will Bardo the qb will be considered to be one of the best players in N. Ky by year end. For now, he's not given the attention the other qbs in N. Ky are because he didn't play qb last year (he was behind Guidugli) but started at cornerback and did a great job. Will is 6'4" plus and weighs about 190. Lefty, with a strong and accurate arm. Very fast and will burn teams not only with his arm but his legs. Was on Highlands 4x400 state champ relay team. Attended Northwestern's camp and ran 4.6 40s. He was the only player at the camp asked to stick around after the camp to do individual workouts for the coaches. Very smart kid too. I think he got a 30 on his ACT and has a very high GPA with AP courses.
In addition to Grubbs ((mentioned by an earlier poster), Hunter Schlosser is another Highlands O lineman that is considered to be one of the best players in N. Ky. He doesn't have the size that Grubbs does (he's only 6'0", 240) and but is one of Highlands strongest players. Very quick feet and was considered by many to be Highlands best O lineman last year. He was strong enough last year to handle the big D lineman but fast and quick enough to block the agile linebackers. And that was in spite of the fact that he played most of the year with ligament damage to an ankle that required surgery after the state game. So far in practices, he's looked even faster and quicker than last year. In spite of not being able to do any squats during the last half of December, January, February and March, I'm told he recently lead the team in a squat lift. Kid's upper body is now huge (while the rest of the players were doing running drills during those months he was recovering from his surgery, he was in the weight room working on upper body).
