Paintsville/Morgan Co. Scrimmage
#1
So did anyone go watch the Paintsville and Morgan Co. JV and Varsity scrimmage tonight? What did you like or not like about either team?

As for the varsity game, Morgan won the first half by 7 and Paintsville won the second half by 4. I guess that nets out to a 3 point Morgan win if it were being counted. But as for the teams - I thought both teams looked a rusty. I guess that is to be expected this time of year. Morgan's D, which is not as good as I have seen it before, gave Paintsville lots of problems. That is something the Tigers will need to work on during the year. The Tigers played fairly well against a more experienced Morgan Co. team. I was impressed with Morgan Co.'s D this early in the year. Of course it needs to get a lot better. Paintsville has a lot of quickness and this year they have more depth which should help. But they look sloppy on offense. Hopefully the Tigers will improve in experience with each game. After all the poor guys have splinters from riding the pine for so long! If the fans can just put last year's great team and memories out of their mind and stand by this team, they will do alright. They are young and inexperienced and that will take some time to work through. Tiller is a great player for his age, but struggled somewhat tonight.

To sum it up, neither Morgan or Paintsville are going to win their districts, but they should be competitive. Good luck to both.

I thought Paintsville made too many terrible, not just bad passes in the first half. I was amazed that they were only down by 7. Heck, at least 5-6 passes were unforced passing errors that missed their targets by 10 feet or more. That all changed in the second half. Paintsville took a lot better care of the ball and it showed. Good talk and adjustments by Coach Ratliff at halftime.
Seth Daniel really impressed me tonight. Nice touch with the ball and played reallly well on both sides of the ball. I believe each night this year will highlite a different player. I thought the Tigers had the better bench by far. The Tigers looked like they were using around nine different kids tonight and to think that there are 4 more that will be seeing a lot of time that were not dressed tonight. Might be a good year to just come at people with tons of pressure this year as I don't think foul trouble will be any problem for them.

The Tigers did look a little out focus tonight. As far as the other kids contributing, they have to show up for practice. I just dont see the dedication from a couple of them. Maybe it will be different this season.

I agree! They are going to have tons of depth. They might want to think about just keeping fresh people in the game like Pitino did with the 1996 team. They lack experience which will improve as the season goes hopefully, and I think that is why you seen some terrible passes in the first half. But they should keep improving. But they do have a solid 10 player rotation if they want to use it. Not many teams can do that. That will also make it hard to key on any one player too.
