What a wild game. Watched the 4th quarter and Woodford County was up 44-34, Woodford throws an interception under 4 minutes to go, Ashland later scores to make it 44-40 Woodford. WC's Duckworth throws another interception, Ashland scores another TD to make it, 47-44 Ashland, then Deja Vu, Duckworth throws another INT for 6 and Ashland hits the extra point to seal the deal, 54-44.
Congrats Tomcats!

Ashland absolutely ran the ball at will against Woodford. Both teams just took turns scoring and I told a friend of mine at the end of the 3rd quarter this was going to come down to turnovers. Woodfords offense is very good but their defense is terrible.
Carter Rushed for 245 yards for Ashland and as a team I believe the Tomcats rushed for 377.
Ashland's defense made some adjustments after they got down that I thought made the difference in the game. For the first three quarters the Ashland D played very conservative against Woodfords spread offense. In the fourth quarter they really picked up the pressure on Duckworth and it payed off with the big interceptions.

I look for this game to be close since it's played at Putnam, but I don't think Ashland has the horses to run the ball on JC.

EKUAlum05 Wrote:Glad to see the value both teams place on the defensive side of the football....Actually Ashland's defense has been very good this year. Woodford is the first team to really spread Ashland's defense out and use the passing game stretch the field. Besides the abilities of Duckworth and company, who did put up 33 points on Johnson Central, special teams killed the Tomcats. Woodfords skill people are very good. Their kickoff returns were a threat to take it the distance every time. In the second half Ashland had to pooch kick or just kick it out of bounds.
In the end The Ashland Defense stepped up and that was the difference in the game.

Glad to be a spring board to your mid season success... LOL....Keep up the good work and we hope to see you guys in the state game... I know I made the statement, Raceland, Russell and JC.. But the way Ashland has been playing I wish them luck....
Friday December 12th 1A state game-??Raceland, next 3A state game- ??Rusell..next 5A state game....?????Ashland, JC.. Could it be a northeastern Kentucky loaded day 1 of the state games....???
Raceland beats Ashland
Ashland beats Russell
Russell beats Raceland.... all three go to state????/
That would be nice to have 3 schools represent 3 classes of football all within 7 miles of each other....

I would like to see how many rushing yards Woodford has allowed now on the season, especially after what JC and Ashland hung on them.

Thats a nice thought but....Highlands pretty much has 5A on lockdown, and NO WAY this years Russell squad makes it....but Raceland has a shot.
10-12-2008, 11:32 PM
Yeah there is not a team in 5a that can come close to highlands
10-13-2008, 08:23 AM
Nice win Tomcats, gonna be an early exit for them in the playoffs though, 2nd round to Highlands. JC should beat Ashland by 21, it took 3 turnovers in a comeback to beat Wooford, who JC dominated. Not to mention JC's strength plays into Ashland's strength, and JC is bigger and more physical with more weapons.

Woodford is giving up over 400 total yards per game.... you will usually come out on the short end with numbers like that.

Russell still has time to grow. Ashland, may have a huge surprise for Johnson Co. Keep on thinking your on the very top and its a hard fall sometimes.
