I understand that Shelby Valley outgained Bath Co. on the ground something like 475 to 150, but fumbled the ball 5 times...

The Wildcats would be well advised to recuit a kicker from one of their soccer teams... I'm not kidding !!

Congrats to Bath.

5 turnovers and 110 yards in penalties for SV. Nice game for BJ Roberts though. Congrats to Bath County on a hard fought win...No disrepect to Morgan County, but that win pretty much sealed up a home-field 1st round playoff game for Bath County.

Very good game. Bath county gave up a LOT of yards but they stepped up and made big plays when they had to. Aaron Roberts had 4 interceptions this game and a lot of other defensive players stepped up in the game. Minus the turnovers and the mental errors by the SV Cats, this would've been a very lopsided win down in Shelby Valley. Bath county is going to have to improve before the playoffs or they can very easily go down at home to Shelby Valley. Good game to both.
I will also say that Shelby Valley is a very classy team and they play hard but their coaches and players always show great sportsmanship.

Maybe we as coaches made a bad call. BJ was worn out when we tried the FG. He had 203 yards rushing and led the team in tackles. Please don't put a kid down when you don't have all the facts.

I had no clue who kicked for SV. Nothing personal was intended. As a matter of fact, I don't even know who "BJ" is.

I'd never put any player down on here. It was merely a suggestion inspired by the final score. 3 pointers can make a HUGE difference in the game when an offense gets stuck in the red zone.

Most all teams have "tryouts" for kicker among its regular position players and then only give them time to work on the skill on their own and as an afterthought at practice.
I don't understand why it's done that way. It could be someone who has NO interest in playing regular offense or defense (ie, a "soccer player"). After all, a kicker's job is radically different from everyone else's on the field. Nothing wrong with putting them on the field and let them practice kicking off a tee while the rest of the team practices.
Last year, Coach Allen (then at Paintsville) used a couple members of the girl's soccer team to kick XP's. They hit >75% of their tries. It was a smart move, IMO.

At SV, the coaches just pick who they want to be the kicker. They select a few guys who they think could kick, let just those guys try, and then they pick from them who kicks.
Before this worked, because Cody Mitchell can kick, but he's down, so now they're hurting.

Another good post.
I agree that it will most likely be another first-round playoff game between the two teams, just like last year. This game went down to the wire, and the rematch should do the same. Seems like these two are developing a nice little rivalry.

Coach,
Just a friendly question....why let the kid gain 20+ yards at a time, then take him out at the goal line? When a player works hard to gain ground for the team, why give the ball to someone else for the TD? Again, just asking, friendly-like....

Just to let you and Cowbell know, the Bath County Wildcats are on path right now to face Knott County Central at home for the first round of the playoffs. Provided they take care of bussiness with Morgan County.
This year the first round games are played out of district. Bath Co.'s district is paired with District 8 and forming Region 4. District 8 consists of Corbin, Middlesboro, Knott Co. Central, and Leslie County.
Somebody correct me if this is wrong.

He was worn out and came to the sideline for water on one occasion that I remember. That is about all that I can say to be completely honest.

You are correct.
It should end up looking like this.
#1 Prestonsburg
#4 Leslie County
#2 Middlesboro
#3 Shelby Valley
#2 Bath County
#3 Knott Central
#4 Morgan County
#1 Corbin
Corbin & Middlesboro haven't faced one another yet, but that matchup will determine who lands the #1 seed for the playoffs.
