Gas going up?
#1
My hair stylist just phoned and said another client came in and told gas was going to 5 dollars per gallon due to Hurricane "Ike"... has anyone else heard this?
#2
Yup, I heard it. Im bout to go out and fill up before it does hit 5$ a gallon. I think its suposed to by tonight. SUX!!
#3
I got it last night figuring it would go up today or tonight knowing that production would halt in the refineries in Texas due to the hurricane.

Shouldn't be much of a surprise to anybody since we've heard Ike was heading that way last week.

Stations that put it up for $5/gallon should be investigated by the feds. It is gouging pure and simple.
Closing refineries does not drive up the price of gas, how long the refineries are closed is what does it.

It is already 3.99 around where I live. Just to think it was 3.59 on monday!

I work for Enterprise Rent-a-Car and we were forced to raise our "pre-pay" gas price up to $4.50 per gallon.

We also got word from other locations around the state that gas was starting to go up.

Luckily, I filled up this morning while gas was still $3.74.

Other Enterprise drivers have reported seeing gas prices as high as $4.63 in Knoxville, TN and $5.75 in North Carolina.

Personally, I spoke with someone who works at Speedway in Richmond and he said that they have been instructed to raise the price to $4.63 "by the end of the day."

I would bet that by 5 PM, most gas stations will be above the $4.00 mark.

Governor Bresher signed a "anti-gouging" bill last night. IMHO there will be quite a few businesses investigated if they keep on spiking up the prices.... OPEC released a statement that they had a surplus of oil... WHY raise it because they had to close down the TEXAS drilling? If there is a surplus we have plenty!!!!!

Several refineries shut down in the Gulf. The drilling wasn't the issue.

If I remember correctly, Gov. Patton did the same thing in the past.

I don't think it's going to stop stations from raising the price. Yes, it might keep the prices at $4.25 instead of $4.75, but I think they're still going to go up.

I agree that the price raise is ridiculous. Ike hasn't even hit yet, and we are already freaking out.

Well... if we've all gone ahead and "filled up"... then why don't we all just sit home, cook, eat, watch football on tv, and let the gas boys swing for a few days @ the 5 dollar mark... if no one is going anywhere, then no one needs gas and they can do without for awhile and enjoy the ride...
#11
I am gonna apologize for that above... but it makes me spittin' mad to be hoo-doo'ed by greedy people...
#12
One of my friends told me yesterday afternoon that it was going up overnight... so we filled up for 3.65 yesterday. I saw on CNN earlier... that a lot of stations in South Carolina have ran out of gas and other stations are limiting how many gallons you can buy.

From Pikeville on what I've seen today has been wild. Gas stations on the KY/VA border have huge lines. I heard that Food City and Wal-Mart bought have ran out of gas at the pumps but no confirmation on either, just take it as hearsay. I've heard several different prices as of 5-6 o'clock but I'm home now so I'm not sure what they are. Lines were crazy though and gas stations everywhere were FULL. I filled up last night though.

8 dollars a gallon in Texas today
#15
Are you serious? That is ridiculous!
