With Coach Napier leaving Paintsville Ind. Schools I was wondering who is going to be hired as the new girls softball head coach?
Go Tigers!!

I don't know who its gonna be but I'm sure the new principal will find someone who will turn that program around. IMO he needs someone young and energetic who will get everyone excited about Paintsville softball.

I have heard it will be David VanHoose....he was Bill Mike Runyon's Assistant Basketball coach. He will be taking on the lead role of the Paintsville Girls Softball team.

Has he ever coached softball? Why not the teacher that was Napiers assistant? He already has experience as coach.

Thats what I am wondering...WHY???? I guess hes someone who will take the job, that's the problem around many schools in East KY they hire people who will do the job instead of going out and looking for someone more qualified. Hopefully he will do a good job though, good luck if this is true!

I thought Coach Vanhoose was on the original stafff when Paintsville began their softball program...anyone have info. on that? But anyway----maybe he can bring some new ideas to the program.

Was that when Hale was the head coach? IF so, here we go again.

Well if nothing else, the Tigers should have a bright field to play on with the addition of the new lights just being put up.

But barely enough room to set. If they are playing a bigger school there isn't enough room for fans. The district games were horrible.

At least they have a field....JCHS probably won't have one to play on for quite some time!!!

JC's will be done in time for the season. At least that's what they tell us, who knows!!!

I sure hope so....a lot of girls will be disappointed to go back on the road again for most of their games.

I am happy for the girls @ PHS. It just took 17 years! As for where one "sits".... I'd be sitting in the outfield and having a ball!
This thread is not about the field though... it's about the coach. I am happy we have someone who knows the game. I hope he is about conditioning in the off-season, fundamentals and beginning the season on time... instead of making everyone wait until the roundball state tournament is over. The gals playing softball are just as committed to their sport as are the other athletes. Paintsville has plenty of young talent coming along... it's time to get back to the business of teaching/coaching what you're being paid to teach/coach. I have no issue with Coach VanHoose coaching softball... (if you just want to get on here and complain... well, that's a waste of time... why not just be supportive ?) he knows the game... and he actually wanted to do this. I look forward to seeing the Tiger Softball team... with the young talent and a knowledgeable coach... supportive parents... new field.... Look Out!

Doesn't VanHoose help with the boys BBall, wont he be busy with the roundball tourn as you say. Doesn't that interfere with conditioning?

You are right....I was way off topic. I hope that the girls enjoy the new field as well as the new coach.....hope it leads to new and exciiting things for the Lady Tigers.
But, as far as the seating goes.....it is horrible!!!

Have those asking "Why?" Coach Vanhoose would take the position been lost in basketball and football for the past 5-6 yrs ?!? In case you haven't noticed, softball is considered a "major" varsity sport.
Being head coach of a woman's major sport is a promotion in both prestige and pay over being an assistant of any other sport, boys or girls.
Frankly, I find it remarkable in this day and time that some still see coaching a woman's high school sport as a 2nd fiddle position. The job and the pay is the same coaching sports in either gender.

Has Paintsville names a head softball coach yet?

Napier was an asst Girls BB coach and never came to the field until after the girls state BB tourneywas over and Paintsville hasn't even been in it!

I think I might apply.

Okay Coach VanHoose, what are you doing as far as off-season conditioning is concerned? How many have signed up for softball? Everyone is excited to hear something and see good things... let's hear it!
