i think the Reds should try him as a relief pitcher.

I dont think Homer is throwing it well enough right now to play in the beer drinking softball league.

Guys give him a break...He's 22-year's old and has had more pressure put on him to perform than any Reds rookie in the last 20 years. He's got mechanics issues. He can't hold runners on base. His velocity is down for some reason because the biggest difference in him from this year to last is the fact he's throwing upper 80's instead of mid 90's. Find out what's causing that and everyone will stop their bashing.
I don't mind at all that the Reds are willing to take some licks with Cueto and Bailey. It's better that running out re-treads like Josh Fogg, which doesn't help the future of this ballclub.

What makes it worse for Homer is you have pitchers like Cole Hamels and Linncecum that have made immediate impacts since coming up the second year. I dont mind Homer getting shelled when he throws mid 90's, but at 88 I would prefer a different option. Upper 80's leads me to believe he is hurt.

Venom and jamey you both make good points i just think Homer can work out his issues from the pin.

Unless you have UNREAL stuff, hitting High 80's????? Minds well put it on a T..At least it seems like that is the way it looked to the Red Sox

I believe he was rushed to the big leagues, but thats JMHO. Yes, you have guys like Hamels and Lincecum who are doing very well right now and who are around the same age. Bailey, from day one in the big leagues, has had a great deal of pressure to perform at a high level. All he has right now is a fastball. His change-up is average, at best, and his curveball might as well be non-existent. He does have some mechanics issues, which I believe will be worked out. When? I have no clue. But I think the whole thing goes back to bringing him up before he was ready. Look at this year. He was VERY inconsistent at AAA Louisville with a 4-4 record and an ERA near 4.00. I don't think it's just Bailey though. No one on the Reds' staff is improving from start to start except Volquez, and I'm not sure he can improve much more.

The reds are going to have to get a solid pitching rotation or they will find it hard to even compete. On the other hand, some of their pitchers are young and have time to improve.

I think he will be alright in the long run.
