ALBUQUERQUE â A Georgia bride-to-be who vanished just days before her wedding turned up in New Mexico (search) and fabricated a tale of abduction before admitting Saturday that she got cold feet and "needed some time alone," police said.
Jennifer Wilbanks, 32, had called her fiance from a pay phone late Friday and told him that she was kidnapped three days earlier while she was jogging, authorities said. But she soon recanted, according to police.
"It turns out that Miss Wilbanks basically felt the pressure of this large wedding and could not handle it," said Randy Belcher, the police chief in Duluth, Ga., the Atlanta suburb where Wilbanks lives. He said there would be no criminal charges.
The wedding, which had been scheduled for Saturday, was elaborate. The couple had mailed 600 invitations, and the ceremony was to feature 14 bridesmaids and 14 groomsmen.
Wilbanks, whose disappearance set of a nationwide hunt for her, was tired and thirsty, but was not complaining of any injuries, officials said. Her hair, which was long in pictures released by her family, was shoulder-length.
What a way to get out of a wedding.

I think she should have called and informed someone that she was fine, before it got this out of hand.

i would so field goal kick her in the face if i was him, that is awfully dirty to do to people that love you. being worried sick about her for days just because she was scared, she should have said something before all this crap went down.

 yea really, if she was willing to run away and make all the people who loved her think that she was gone then she is crazy and its hard to say what else she would do, she lied to the nation basically so i would never ever speak to her again if i was him.

He is an idiot for wanting to take her back, and I think the only reason she ran away is so she could get her wedding on TV or w/e try to become famous and I think her family knew about it b/c when they interviewed them they didnt show any remorse but thats my thoughts and opinions lets hear the rest of your alls

yeh thats wut im thinkin man, cuz there family acted really suspicious when this came out, leaving me to believe that this was planned from both sides??
05-02-2005, 09:13 AM
quite possibly, i havent been watching the news coverage of it though because quite frankly it pissed me off. but yea everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame so therefore it quite possibly was planned and all parties involved know about it. it sucks for the people though that didn't know and left their jobs for days to search for her, which they lost money for.....
