Tate Cox
#31
To all those who replied after my post, thanks for also recognizing a great talent, BEYOND high school.
As for Survivor, I think you may need to find something else better to do in your spare time, because watching high school basketball and gauging talent, you are about as good as my little one when it comes to playing, and he/she isn't even born yet.

BUT, maybe you should keep on going, because it does make for interesting reading on this site. And I love to laugh.

No hard feelings.

As for Tate Cox, again, one of the smoothest players I have seen, and I have seen a lot of them. Has played against some of the best players around, and was the best of the floor. Still hope Gillespie, or whomever is coaching Kentucky, is pointed in his direction by someone who has that sort of pull.

One thing that I have not seen in this discussion is the subject if the Kid a D1 goes after , can they have high enough ACT and SAT scores to qualify for a scholarship offer and is the player determined to put in the time in the classroom to keep up the standards set by each school. UK does not need a situation like Florida State is facing. Tate Cox is a fine example for a D1 school to look at.

The thing about Tate is that I think he is the best player in the region now and he is actually playing out of position. He is a true point guard in every sense of the word. He makes everyone around him better and he gets the ball to whomever has the best opportunity to score. He is also a extremely good shooter from the field and is great from the freethrow line. With the game on the line and someone needing to shoot freethrows to win the game I would take him over anyone in the state. He always looks to pass first and when the situation is right he then shoots second. Too much emphasis is put on how many points a player gets when it should be on does a kid make his team better. Points per game is something that can be easily swayed in the favor of certain players. Tate is the type of kid that is more concerned with his team winning over individual acculades...

Windsprint Wrote:I think you guys are selling Tate Cox a little short. Winner, great kid, team player who will play wherever he wants to. One of the most humble kids who ever laced a pair of sneakers on. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a knucklehead who doesn't have a clue. Quit trying to cause bickering between he and his teammates. They ARE the defending 14th region champs and until they lose a regional game----they are still the champs.Raven Boy--you do not have a clue as to what it takes to be a college ballplayer, so get off this kid's back and sit and marvel that he is a kid from Eastern Ky that is successful and WILL be successful at the next level. END OF STORY !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more, but, you all are missing the point. These threads are for us to post our opinions, so just because someone doesn't think the same way as you do don't disrespect others opinion.

OUTSTANDING, b-ball player, best in the region, and seems to be a fine and well-mannered young man. I think he has a great future ahead of him if he stays healthy.

Survivor Wrote:You obviously don't understand the kind of player and athlete it takes to play major division 1 basketball, that is the most rediculous statement I have ever seen on this site. He is not a D1 bb player. I'll give you good kid, smart player, great person and all that, but that doesn't make you a major D1 player. I still say NAIA. You would be surprised at that level of competition and there's alot of players at the NAIA level better that Cox. I wish him the best though, good high school player, but IMO not even the best Sophomore in the 14th. I would say Whitaker is.

I strongly agree with you on the point that the standards to be a D-1 basketball player is a little too high for one to accomplish from around here. I had a conversation with Johnny Cox not too long ago and he said their wasn't no D-1 players around. Tate is a phenominal player, and one of my favorites. My personal opinion he is the key to their success. He is the best sophomore in the region, in my opinion. I'd love to see him make it to a D-1 school but the truth is he'll prolly be NAIA.
