Final. Turnovers at the end of regulation doomed the Tomcats. Ashland was led by Zander Carter with 33 points in the loss. Ashland finishes it season at 24-8. The Purples move on the semis in the morning vs. the winner of South Oldham and Jeffersontown.

Ashland was poor down the stretch. Turnovers, defense, and trying to sit on the ball and run clock backfired.

I tried to tell people. 16th Region is not talented enough. Simple as that. Probably the best Ashland team in a long time. Hard to win 4 games in a row against that kind of competition.

"Sometimes it's better to keep your mouth shut and everyone assume you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove it".
On a constructive and relevant note, Congratulations to Bowling Green! No shame in losing to a quality team and a great group of young men. Wouldn't mind seeing BG win the whole thing. Thanks to the Tomcats for a fine season and some great memories.

Same old story; he’s learned nothing. Almost a carbon copy of their loss to Lyon Co last year. Ashland led for basically the entire game, with the largest lead at 11, I believe. They led by 3 with less than a minute to play & had the ball. No way they should’ve lost. They were the better team for 90% of the game. But, they, once again played tight down the stretch & didn’t play to win. Which seems to be a staple.
This team absolutely has enough talent to win a championship. They should be in the FF THIS SEASON & I, personally, would love their chances against either possible opponent, assuming they can stay out of their own way. Which, admittedly, is asking a lot, apparently. And, they’ve proven that they can play with GC. But, instead, defeat was snatched from the jaws of victory, AGAIN. This loss isn’t on the talent, however.

Dang, more often than not when a team starts stalling they lose.
Big loss for the Tomcats.

Regardless, having the lead & the ball with under a minute to play, with no shot clock, should result in a win 99.9% of the time. And, BG still had like 2 fouls to give. That type of loss is inexcusable & it’s the second year in a row that he’s allowed it to happen.
He chokes in crunch time in big games. I don’t see how it’s even debatable. It happens more often than it doesn’t against good teams. And, no I’m not a parent of a player. I’m just an alum who is frustrated watching them lose games that they shouldn’t & wasting the most talent Ashland has had in YEARS. I could just as easily accuse you of being Bonner’s daddy considering how you’re always there to white knight for him anytime he’s questioned.
Two years in a row at Rupp his teams have held leads & possession of the ball, with less than a minute to play, & he managed to lose both games. I’m sorry if you don’t like it, but, that is the EPITOME of a coach choking. I understand that it’s HS basketball & I don’t go in on coaches unless it’s something egregious. And, the last two season ending losses were the definition of that. There have been several regular season losses on that level, too. Ashland can do better.

I believe you have played this game and I also would think that you have never been perfect at the game plan that was set out for the team you was on. I would bet his teams are more prepared than most teams they have faced not counting the ones in regional teams definitely can’t count Boyd or Fairview.(03-28-2025, 03:11 PM)Ky1976 Wrote:Well, when it happens over & over, it’s on the coach. And doing better they had that in May’s and Ashlands school board and Elliot native superintendent made sure he was leaving. The KHSAA was done and maybe he get a couple games suspension. His team at MOCO this year may very well win it all. And since Ashland is out I hope he wins it.
With that said if I’m not mistaken Ashland has fired 3 or 4 of its last coaches. Who would want the job at Ashland other than maybe you????

Wasn’t the coaches fault. Some of you know it all Dads need to apply for a Head coaching job. Winning ain’t easy especially at the State Tourney. Ashland had a damn good team and nothing to hang their heads on. Some of you guys are just so damn stupid with the comments. Good god.

Everybody over analyzing this game and losing their senses. This game came down to one call, one decision, one turnover, one missed free throw, one made basket, etc. Either team could've won. Period. This time it was Bowling Green. Again, Congratulations! It took a sustained effort for them to put themselves in a situation to win. It happened. It hurts. Let's move on.

The big stat in this game was the 14 Ashland turnovers that led to 18 Bowling Green points.

Unbiased opinion here. Ashland should’ve won. They didn’t protect the ball when it mattered the most at the end of regulation. OT was all BG.
Great season regardless, and I’ve become a big fan of Zander Carter. That’s a great ballplayer and even better kid. I’m sure his parents are really proud of the person he is. He’s an impressive young man. Wishing him and his teammates all the best in their future endeavors.
