Paintsville 68 Prestonsburg 54 (15th Region Super Regional)
#1
Tigers come to Pburg and overcome a 3 point halftime deficit and pull away late to defeat the host Blackcats and advance on to the 15th region quarterfinals to face Pike Central on 3/8.

Coach Tackett should've stayed in the 2-3

Turnovers early hurt Prestonsburg, but once they settled down they started playing much like they did in the 58th tourney and led at the half.

Paintsville basically dominated much of the 2nd half. Gotta credit Landon Slone and his team. Once Pburg switched from the 2-3 to man, Paintsville moved the ball around really well, attacked the baseline and got a ton of good looks with Woods and Cole. Tackett never made any adjustments and Tigers just slowly pulled away and Prestonsburg couldn't make enough plays offensively.

Hats off to Braxton Keathley. Kid played outstanding, struggled to get going in the 2nd half, but Paintsville defended him really well also.

Hate it also for the Blackcat seniors. Allen and Napier are super seniors and they've played for 4 or 5 different coaches at PHS, but these seniors deserve their flowers. They've been through a lot with the program and stuck it out and have played a TON of basketball for Prestonsburg. I wish those two along with Nairn and Reynolds the best and appreciate them being great representatives of our school and community.

Looking ahead, it's vital that Keathley and Shutts stay at Prestonsburg. I think there's a solid group of incoming freshman coming up that can help this program going forward. I'm a HUGE football guy and always will be, but I love Blackcat athletics as well and want to see them all win. Keeping those two will play a huge role in giving Prestonsburg opportunities to win in the future.

Paintsville was a tough draw for whoever got it. I think the 2nd best team in region. Happy Phelps won but them drawing Magoffin was the only team they could beat.

Paintsville was probably the one team outside of Martin County that I didn’t want us to face. They are just solid. No outstanding players but a group of individuals that have bought into ball movement. They put on a passing clinic against a zone. It’s actually incredible to watch. Then you look at Prestonsburg against a zone and it’s drive through 3 and flip up crap or pass it once and be a black hole and hold the ball until the defense collapses. I’ve never seen a team pass the ball less than Prestonsburg. And it’s been that way all season.

Very proud of those Blackcats. Two high emotion overtime games in the last week just took our legs away in this game. We did ok as long as we were in zone but when we tried to play man in the 2nd half against paintsville’s very disciplined offense we just ran out of gas and Paintsville drove a dagger in our hearts the last 4 minutes, as a good team should. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Paintsville beat Pikeville by a similar margin. They’re very disciplined, very skilled, very well coached. Congrats to them!

Big thanks to the Blackcat seniors who stuck it out through 4 coaches in 4 years. Connor Napier, Kaden Allen, Cade Nairn. Thank you! Hail Blackcats!

Wow, yesterday you were on the band wagon, today it reads as if you fell off of it overnight.  Got to to make up your mind.

The difference between Prestonsburg has been obvious all year. When they move the ball, they can play with anyone. When they play hero ball, they fall apart. Not real hard to figure out. It’s not a “bandwagon”. It’s common sense. Last night the ball movement wasn’t there like it had been.

Wasn't last night an improvement? Didn't these same two teams play like 2 weeks ago and it was a 40 point beatdown? Even read Prestonsburg led at halftime. I personally think Paintsville is the 2nd best team in the region and if Prestonsburg could have drew Magoffin instead of Phelps they would still be playing.

Sorry, I guess I misread that you stated they were playing with urgency and the desire to win, which means something.  I believe you picked them to win this game playing inspired.  Let me put my glasses on and I'll read again.

Yes, it was better than it had been for sure. But there were times last night we reverted. We also went away from what was working with the big lineup. I’m proud of how we’ve played the last couple of weeks but it’s disappointing knowing we should’ve won that game last night but didn’t. But hats off to Paintsville. They’re very well coached and are bought into what they try to accomplish.

Do you mean Magoffin County instead of Paintsville?
