WYMT Top Ten
#1
This top ten was released before the results of last nights games. However there is no logical rhyme or reason to this. I thought football was bad. I have to say that at this specific moment in time, anyone that has anything to do with the HS Sports segment of WYMT sports OT and gets a CHECK is robbing someone. Glad i’m not the one paying their pay stubs. This is plain out, straight up, insane FROM ALL ACCOUNTS.

Boys

  1. Hazard

  2. South Laurel

  3. Harlan Co.

  4. Bell Co.

  5. Johnson Central

  6. Martin Co.

  7. Clay Co.

  8. North Laurel

  9. Knox Central

  10. Corbin

Girls
  1. South Laurel

  2. Johnson Central

  3. North Laurel

  4. Knox Central

  5. Southwestern

  6. Pikeville

  7. Whitley Co.

  8. Corbin

  9. Martin Co.

  10. Pulaski Co.
Let’s just throw names on a list. Head to Heads, records, strength of schedule, NONE OF THIS IS BEING LOOKED AT. HOW ARE THEY GETTING AWAY WITH THIS!!

WYMT and most local media is terrible. They don't know the kids' names, don't know prior results, get statistics incorrect, etc. I can't say for certain, but I don't think I have seen a person from WYMT or a sports reporter from ANE at a game all season, outside of the All A. That's why I actually appreciate what D&D does, even though I think they are wildly biased and disagree with a lot that they say, at least they can tell you who has beaten who, and who the players are and some of their background.

One of the D&D guys came to Bell County for our classic and they were very nice and were fairly even on their broadcast even of teams against Belfry. I liked them. Of course people will have bias, I know I do. But exactly those guys are responsible broadcasters.

Probably haven't seen a lot of WYMT at games this season because they only have a single person in the sports department after the layoffs.
I doubt he's gotten the hang of teleporting and time travel just yet.

It has been pathetic for years.

If you're talking about their presence at games, I would say they've done about as good as possible.
I'm on a football field every Friday night from one side of the coverage area to the other and they're consistently shooting highlights.
I'm mostly tied down to the 14th in basketball but I've almost always seen them and they've asked me for footage when they couldn't get to a game I was at.

If you want to complain about the rankings. Valid. Go for it.
But just saying they aren't going to games for years is false.

WYMT should have never let Josh McKinney and Nathan Lyttle walk away. Those two guys along with Brian Milam were the greatest WYMT ever had doing sports.

Thanks for your permission.

As good as possible with 1 person, maybe, but objectively the coverage is not good and that is not debatable. The ignorance of the teams they cover is shown through the rankings, or when they get names wrong on the broadcasts and the highlights. I don't doubt the 1 person remaining tries their best, but in the world outside of WYMT, things aren't judged on how hard you try, it is judged on the product you put out there. And if there is 1 person remaining in the sports department, which you obviously have ties to the company, so I believe you, the company as a whole has failed them.

Bell High is the best basketball team in the mountains. Ranking them behind HC, who they have beaten twice already, and One Trick Pony, South Laurel, is a joke. Bell County is my dark house pick win a state championship. Would make Old School happy. I like the way they go about their business of kicking ass and taking names. How about a Bell County/ Hazard championship game at Rupp?

Since you obviously have a connection to WYMT from your two posts in this thread and you constantly defending them over the past, i’ll be as nice as I can in my response.

Sounds like they got one more to go.

If you have a sports department with one person, that’s the most ridiculous thing in the world. There are countless people in the 13th region alone that are giving their time and money just to get the kids coverage (and get to see some great games for free). WYMT should’ve given their sports department to Alice Lloyd completely and let college kids hoping to become broadcasters or TV personalities a chance to be on local television. I bet they would love to travel the mountains and cover HS sports. But no, they are too stubborn and now WYMT is without a doubt the laughing stock of all sports-covering entities.

Hope they enjoy their multiple media passes to all Rupp arena games though, since they do so much for the games just down the road. I hear there’s a big game tonight at Rupp, will they choose not to go to it like they have every single game this year.

WYMT is awful. Looks like they got a few student interns probably working for starvation wages and coverage is awful in news and sports. We get the WV stations in Pikeville and they are far superior. Like adults vs. kids. They still do a passable job with HS football but barely and it has fallen way off from back when it was pretty good.

You have obviously lost your mind sir!!! First of all for pencilling in Bell as 13th region champs which you actually have done with your comments in multiple threads and now you’re talking about a  State Title run for a team that their two best players are a Junior and a sophomore……..You’re giving way too much credit for some good wins by Bell and last night’s beat down of your Redhounds. You should probably slow down a whole lot my friend………You seem to forget that HC got a win over Bell in a big 2A regional title game a few weeks ago………

Hate to hear that WYMT has had cuts in their sports department. They can really shine a light on our mountain athletes with the right support.

I like your Bears, and I love Maddox, but I like Bell's team more. They will drub my Canis lupis familiaris and your Ursus americanus  when/if they meet again. Bell is going to make some noise in Lexington. I feel it in my Old bones.

I believe the sweet 16 Rupp Arena crowd would love to see the HC team once again this year with 4 of our top 6 players back including our first team all stater and our crowd favorite Reggie Cottrell along with the passion these kids brings to to floor with them. HC/Bell in the district championship game at Harlan City, the winner of that game should have the best path to Rupp so let’s see what happens………

I love my team but anyone that says beating Harlan County is a given is crazy so don’t even give them the time of day. Harlan County beat Bell in round 1 this season, although it was at home and Bell decided that threes weren’t important for some reason. If the cats keep the threes flying, the numbers speak for themselves. I will go ahead and say again that the Bell/HC matchup is the best shooting team in the KHSAA vs the best SHOOTER in the KHSAA.

I would of course cheer on the Black Bears til the end if they made it to Rupp, but I hope this year they don’t get the chance to get on I75 and the new reign of the cats begins. It’s amazing we have two dominant teams in our little neck of the mountains!!

im suprised people even look at WYMT rankings every year and think there legit, generational rage bait at this point.

It's not just sports. Gray Communications has virtually destroyed WYMT as a news operation. Really appreciate Steve Hensley, but they've just hollowed out the rest of the news and weather. Sports is so decimated that I wonder they even bother. Such a shame because at one time WYMT was a great asset for Eastern Kentucky.

Of course, the Bears could win matchup four or five with Bell but I'm not counting on it. I think Bell is the better team. We'll see what BGR basketball scholars are saying when Bell High is playing for a state championship in a few weeks.
