I could be leaving someone off and if so I apologize. Due to the fact of JC beating MC I have them at one but I think it’s between JC, MC, and Pikeville to be in the top. Other than that it drops off big time. What’s your thoughts? Debate with me.

Johnson Central is the hardest team to rank for me, as they just beat what was the consensus #1 team most recently, but right before that dropped a couple to Paintsville and PC. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong, but I think your real 15th region championship contenders are 1-5 on the list.

I still think MC is the best basketball team in the region, but with Pikeville, Paintsville, JC and PC playing excellent ball right now I think any of those teams can beat any of the others. We might get the most wide open 15th region tournament in decades this year. I don’t even know how to try to rank them at this point.

I agree— JC is playing well at the right time. With football guys, takes time to get basketball acclimated. Martin is my favorite in the region, for sure. Paintsville is hard to rank because their wins always seem to be on their home court. I think the top 5-6 teams could win on any given night.

They have won some games early in the season when they was hot. I just don’t believe that team has what it takes to win the big games when the tournament comes around. Martin is the best team in the region hands down. There is only 2 teams I believe that can beat them when it matters and it’s Pikeville and JC. Pikeville is figuring out the rotations that work after being over halfway through the season (which is what happens when get multiple transfers). They will be a strong team when the region tournament comes around. JC is a young team that plays together and proved last year they was going be a top team in the region for a while. I believe in reality there is only 3 teams that can win the region. It’s not as wide open as people think.

They have beat every team ranked from 7-13 in your rankings head to head. I think they fall into the sixth spot (who in region has Phelps beat?)

To me Martin County is still the best team in the region, but that gap is not nearly as big as was perceived earlier in the season. Johnson Central and Pikeville are starting to get a rhythm and play much better basketball. JC just had their best week of the season winning at Lawrence, Martin at home, and Pike Central at home. That stretch is similar to the type of week you need to win a regional championship. But JC does not match up well with Paintsville. Like others I think Pikeville is the team that is sneaking around in the background but may very well win it in the end. I think my top five would be:
1) Martin
2) Paintsville
3) Johnson Central
4) Pikeville
5) Pike Central

@Quincy I'm just basing my rankings off of how each team done last week Paintsville dominated Magoffin on the road, defeated Betsy Layne at home, and dominated Russell at home Saturday. I know JC beat Martin, but Paintsville has a victory over JC just a few weeks ago.
Think Paintsville learned a lot since that ALL A matchup, they went into that game timid and didn't play loose at all, even cutting the lead to 5 at half, everyone just had that feeling that Martin Co would go on a big run in the 2nd half and that's what happened. Paintsville is just very disciplined on the offensive side, Martin is more athletic, but size wise Paintsville has the advantage even tho Martin can contend with them. It'll be back to back tough test for Paintsville this week with both games on the road, we will truly see what kind of team they are, but they're playing just as good as anyone right now since the ALL A loss.
