Ohio State 34 Notre Dame 23 (CFP Championship)
#1
Final from Atlanta.

Notre Dame had a gritty opening drive before Ohio State scored 31 unanswered. Notre Dame had a touchdown in the 3rd Quarter and converted the 2-point try, but would go on to miss a short field goal on one of the next drives.

The Irish had another touchdown and 2-point conversion in the 4th, and looked to be in position to make it really interesting late until the Buckeyes' Jeremiah Smith was hit with a 57-yard bomb on 3rd and 11 with 2:38 left and the game was effectively put out of reach. A late Ohio State field goal would seal it.

On the night, Notre Dame recovered one fumble, but that was the only turnover or big special teams play that they'd have. Riley Leonard led the Irish in rushing with 40 yards on 17 attempts. Nice night for Jaden Greathouse, who had 5 catches for 111 yards and 2 TDs, but he was really the only Notre Dame receiver who was able to get consistent separation.

Credit Notre Dame for hanging in there and making things interesting late when it would have been easy to fold, but Ohio State controlled this one from the 2nd quarter forward.

Stat of the game: Ohio State rushed for 214 yards to Note Dame's 53.

I certainly wasn't for them. You have to tip your hat to them though, they beat Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame to stake their claim as the undisputed best team this season.

Would have been cool to see them play a Georgia team at full strength, but I don't know that it would have mattered.

Who do they have back next season and what can we expect out of the portal (even if it's just positions and not names)?

Was it just me, or did the playoff seem like it had run out of steam by last night, seemed like the games went on forever. Maybe it was who was in the championship game, but it didn’t seem as exciting as in years past.

Looked like OSU might run away with it but ended up being a heck of a game.  Hat's off to both teams.

4th quarter got a little odd at times I thought.  OSU has the ball.  Announcer said ND needs a turnover.  Next play OSU fumbles on a huge run and ND recovers lol

On 4th and goal ND doinks a fg.  I don't understand kicking a fg in that situation.  Even if it went through they'd still needed 2 TDs to win.  ND soon after, cuts the lead to 8. If they'd went for it instead of missing the fg it could've been a tied game.  Idk if OSU was just letting off the gas some but NDs defense had finally been getting some stops.

Anyway ended up being a exciting game.  Congrats to both teams and to OSU on the win!

Honestly thought with that opening ND drive, 18 play 70+ yard drive that they would establish dominance especially in the trenches.

OSU just has so many weapons on the offensive side, Judkins is an absolute beast, then you put the receivers that they have around Howard, they'll make any QB look elite. That OSU defense was definitely the difference, even tho they did seem to let up late in the game with a comfortable lead and let ND back in. Irish had their chance on that last OSU drive, they stacked the box expecting the run on 3&10, but gutsy play call there by Chip Kelly to throw it deep to Jeremiah Smith who was in single coverage, that sealed it.

Was rooting for Notre Dame in this one, hate it that they lost. Not an OSU fan, but how about them winning the inaugural 4 team playoff 10 years ago, and winning the inaugural 12 team playoff this year. I'm sure this feels good for Ryan Day, but I'm also sure in the back of his mind, if only we could beat Michigan.

Congrats to THE Ohio St, National Champions.
