Do you have a favorite? Mine is probably not one you'd expect from an atheist , but I'm a pretty complicated guy. Anyway, my favorite is OH HOLY NIGHT. John Barry has what I consider a gold standard version. Really terrific. About every singer of consequence has covered the song, and it's not an easy song to do. You have to have some legit vocal chops to nail this one.
This young lady appeared as an invited guest at a church I attended several years ago on the Falls Road in Corbin and she did this song. It was quite something to hear her do it live. I like when the electric guitars come in at around 4:27.Really gives it a contemporary Christian rock, feel. Pretty unique cover. RoseAngela really turns it on late in the song. She's terrific, and a really nice girl.

Upon considerable contemplation on the matter, most Christmas songs really kinda suck ass, when you think about it. What's that one that plays over and over from the end of Thanksgiving to the end of Christmas at department stores like Belk and JC Penny? Christmas is like Trix, and Trix is for kids. Christmas sucks for old b@st$rd$ like Old School, especially when you can't get rid of a damn sinus infection and and your holiday food tastes like really burnt coffee. Bah Humbug.
Here's that department store Christmas song: WHAM!!!!
Jet, Grandma Bear, help me out here, what are your favorite Christmas songs???

I cannot stand this song. I hated it when it came out when I was in elementary school, then it was the my oldest played over and over when he was in preschool. To make worse for me, he went through the phase of listening to this over and over in the summertime. I cringe just hearing the title of this song.

I throw up in mouth a little every time I hear it while shopping at a department store.

Favorite Christmas songs are Oh Holy Night and Oh Christmas Tree. Least favorite is Little Drummer Boy, ugh. There are tons of great Christmas songs, sorry but anyone who says most Christians songs suck ass probably thinks Christmas sucks ass.
Favorite pop Christmas songs are Step Into Christmas by Elton John, Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney and Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses.
Favorite Christmas TV show is Charlie Brown Christmas. I've seen it 100 times and hope I see it another 100.

Is that better? lol It's all about black and blue Fridays. The Elton song is a dandy. A Always been a favorite. Favorite childhood memory from Christmas was going and hunting a Christmas tree with my pawpaw. And we didn't to a parking lot and buy one. We went to the woods and cut one down.

The commercialization of Christmas does suck ass. Addressed perfectly in Charlie Brown Christmas. We always went and cut down our Christmas tree too. Priceless.

Completely agree, my friend. I miss my grandparents so much. They provided my sister and I with so many wonderful Christmas memories. We spent so much time at their house growing up. If I could go by in time, I wouldn't hesitate. Eddie Money said it so well. Ah... but we can't go back.

I'm with you my buddy. I think our generation was the best time to be growing up in this country. Great families and no Internet or 1000 channels on TV. Wasn't without problems or issues, but overall was so awesome and wouldn't trade a minute of it for all the money in the world.

Some say its selective nostalgia but I agree with you, I think it really was a better time. Technology makes for a lot of new and modern conveniences but for every advancement made, I think we sacrifice something important. We have sacrificed a lot, imo, in the last fifty years. I would go back to the '70's in my grandparents house for the holidays in a heartbeat. Makes me sad just talking about it. I miss my loved ones who have passed, especially around this time. There are times when I go to sleep kinda ambivalent about waking up in the morning. Wish it wasn't like that. My mother would be sad if she knew that.

I love any rendition of silent night, I'll never forget the last time my family on my dad's side got together for Christmas, back in 2010 which was the last time that we were all together at the same time, my cousin just had a baby and she was about a month old at the time, my uncle who has always been incredible on the guitar, started singing silent night, and the look on her face was something I'll never forget, she just had the biggest smile on her face. Of course you have loved ones pass away who were the glue that held everyone together, even tho I've still got a lot of years ahead of me lord willing, it just isn't the same as it used to be anymore. I have kids now, but they have blended families and it's tough to recapture those times with them bc time now is so limited, but I always cherish those memories that I had with my grandparents as well as everyone on here.
I know I got a little off topic at the end, but my other favorite Christmas songs are Let it be Christmas by Alan Jackson, and even tho I've never been a fan of Alabama, I love Angels Among us as well. Isn't Christmas for me until I hear those songs.
