Well, I put Boyle at the 5th spot myself. The reason being they lost to the 4th place team we had in the poll for Week 3 Playoffs. Now, CAL Preps makes projections based on stats and is updated every week. So here is todays updated stats. Take one look at the Franklin County/Boyle matchup, its the closest of all the predictions. Now, before someone post I do realize that is why we play the game. Any given night is real for a reason. We saw it play out this year in multiple classes. 4A#1 Boyle goes down, 1A #1 Pikeville goes down, 3A #1 Central goes down but to a worthy and arguably better team being possibly the other #1 CAL. But still yet 3 of the 6 Classes Top team has went down this year. The year of the upset. I think its not over. This weekend's games may be some of the best finals we will get to watch in a long time. Some barn burners. 4A can bite you in Round 3, 4 and 5. Shark Weeks. But for the record, Boyles stats are no fluke. Based on the current stats, they are still the top team by the numbers. So, the two remaining teams are closer by the numbers than some may think. May be a defensive battle and turnover game for all the marbles.

People keep saying well, if they played a 100 times Boyle would win 99... WELL guess what you don't play a 100 times, and your corner backs need to be involved in run plays on defense... and you cant fumble! Boyle deserves the hype.. but when your out, your out!

Smile I broke down the film. I wanted to see what happened. It's a rare occasion to see Boyle look vulnerable. They had 2 fumbles and one that was costly at the wrong time of the game. 2 Pass interference calls that extended drives that was about to give the ball back to Boyle was huge and resulted in 10 points that ultimately sealed the win.  Then when you look at the fact that Covington Catholic only had 4 pass attempts.  Also, I noticed Covington Catholic staff waited till Boyle pulled the safety in and left single coverage on the receivers and made a pass in single coverage that went for a touchdown that in most the rest of the game had a safety in place. Someone looking down on the field saw that from up high. Also, give credit to Covington Catholic players for playing hard and they had a little more to play for in that game than possibly Boyle did. I couldn't imagine as a being a old coach myself having to try to keep a teams level of play at the highest level for 5 years straight. Its just a matter of time before you play a team hungrier than you are. I think Covington Catholic just flat out shocked the whole state that night. I don't remember anyone saying Boyle was going to get beat. Sure we all can talk like Moncho Man Savage after the loss, but not before. Boyle was never out of this ballgame. They could have won this game all the way down to the final couple of minutes till the turnover. Sometimes, games will be just ugly. Its more of pressure, overcoming injuries and momentum. Covington Catholic was just playing the better football that night. All a man can say. Yes, Boyle is at home. Thats also why I put them at 5th place. I can imagine that Covington Catholic probably in the locker room all year had the score of last years finals to remind them of the task at hand. When you play a motivated team, sometimes they are just a different animal when they come in and just have a reason to come away with a win. CC did that night.
