Not really. The 13th is loaded with mediocrity, or worse.
Now that's a damn good question. I'll get back to you. My first inclination is that some of the reasons for the college basketball product being watered down is trickling down to high school, as well. There are are a plethora of reasons, I'm sure.

My very humble opinion why? It's lots of reasons. Coaches don't have the guts to play who they should, they can't say anything without hurting little Johnny's feelings the parents are down their throat's. We live in a society that thinks and we are taught we should all be equal and we are not. Over time from the cradle we have been taught that I am first and can't handle a supporting role. On the other side the kid that should play gets discouraged says screw it why beat my brains in day in day out go through all of the conditioning when I can go home at 3pm and play on the computer not to mentioned there are fishing, archery lot of other sports that wasn't around back in the day. All that said this generation is soft and it's getting softer no pride no grit. Just grab a phone and start scrolling or go make a TikTok.

More of the same at Whitley County, they have been the biggest underachievers in 13th region basketball for 40 years. According to this region almanac they are 2-11 all time at the region tournament, and haven't won a game at the region since 1974. They have only appeared in 4 regional tournament boys games in the last 40 years and their closest game in the region tourney in that forty year span is a 16 point loss in 2011.

I don’t think the region is filled with mediocrity, because i believe the region has very good teams 2-8 and a great team at 1. However, those 2-8 are much closer than they should be and any game could be a toss up. South, Bell, clay, Corbin, north, jackson, whitley head to head could always go either way. I think those teams are better than most regions second tier, i mean Harlan who had 4 wins beat breathitt! There’s only a few regions in the state that have deep teams in the region like this one does, and those are around the metro areas.
I didn’t even include Pineville and knox who also have pretty major wins.

It's hard to argue the points you make. Lot of truth there. Little Johnny sucks and it's damn time we told him and his parents so.

Whitley proves that they are still Whitley, playing kids because of Daddy as opposed to who is the best……some things will never change
