North Laurel 75 South Laurel 63
#1
Final from North Laurel.

The Jags bounce back from the loss to Clay County last night, but neither team was at full strength. Brock went down last night and sat again for the Jags. Mabe is still out for the Cards.
#2
South is a lost cause without Mabe.

And Whitley County beats the Hounds at Corbin… things are a changing…

And Wburg beat Whitley.  Corbin will probably beat South and Whitley in the next couple of weeks and finish 5-1.  Wouldn't surprise me to see South finish 4-2 and be the #2.  The more things change the more they stay the same.

Definitely wouldn't be a surprise, but the 50th seems closer than usual this year. Whitley has all three at home in the next two weeks.

They are out of sorts, but considering they have had a full player shift they are doing pretty well. South is actually down two vital players. Mabe of course and the Fullmer kid who is normally the first sub. They now have guys playing in positions they probably have never played before and a few who have never had the varsity time they are getting. The Rawlings kid has a huge load to carry without Mabe. He is no doubt the best defensive player on the team and has become the primary ball handler has well which will limit his out side shots some. The two Steele boys are playing well offensively too. This could really strengthen them if Mabe gets back and is ready to go. I really thought Corbin was the team to beat. But Coach P and P Jr where really at each other the other night in the lose to Whitley. And not having Stewart is affecting them. Curry is the cog for the redhounds. How could you not like this kid he gets after it every game on both ends. Even though Harlan Co is really good. It would only take one off night for Noah or foul trouble game for them to tank. Which i haven't seen Harlan co have a game like that thus far. North is looking better. I still say they have some very talented players, but they battle a lot the ball sticking maybe its parents pushing kids to get theirs. I thought they looked really good against South the other night especially with out Brock. Jervis had the game of his life!! I know all to well what parents goals will do to a team. We have had more than our share at Clay. Having a little this year too. If Coach Jones can get it worked out we will be a tough out at region and i believe the tigers win the 49th this year. Which brings me to this. I believe OBI is the host for the 49th this year, but i heard they had worked out an agreement with North to host. Anyone know if this is legit. Fingers crossed that OBI host it.

I was at the game and SL looked out of sorts and desperate at times, The game was pretty intense with kids going after it hard at times it got a bit rough on the floor. It was NL Homecoming and I suspect they were not going to be embarrassed by cross-town rivals beating them that game in particular. NL sure rebounded from the loss to Clay the night before.

I think the 49th will be at OBI. I don't think they got it worked out to have it at NL.

You’d think South would still win considering they have the best coach in Ky.

This was a little surprising to me!

He's an excellent coach. Tough for any coach to still win after absorbing a loss like Mabe.

You take the 2nd best player in the region off a team that uses him pretty much every possession up and down the floor, the coach can only do so much when he’s gone. 6’7 guy who can drive, shoot, and defend all 5 positions… He’s a freak in this part of the state. Imagine Harlan County without trent, or North without Reed last year, do those coaches stay on the top of the mountain. Mabe isn’t as talented as those guys, but the impact is similar.
