Corbin 83 Williamsburg 58
#1
Final from L.U. Gilliam gym in Corbin.  Wild 50th district action tonight !!!   Corbin (13-5) had four or five players in double figures, including two(Pietrowski and Worley) with double doubles.  The Jackets hung tough through three quarters and were within about a dozen points. Then the Wburg coaching staff completely lost their minds.  Roark was called for a walk and protested the call and was T'd up. Then the Wburg bench went ballistic. Head coach lost control, assistant coach got right in the face of the ref, appearing to threaten him. This got the Wburg fans irate and a couple of them were tossed from the gym.

It never ceases to amaze me that , in youth sports, the adults act much worse than the kids. Wburg kids played hard but couldn't overcome Corbin's depth and balanced attack and their own coaches undisciplined behavior. I love Williamsburg and always root for them except when they play the Hounds.  WHS needs to address tonight's immature and embarrassing behavior on the part of it coaches. I love passion from coaches but it has to be a controlled passion.

I was unable to attend this one but I listened to the broadcast of Bowling and Dickerson on T107-3. They described the incident as I did above. Said the head coach started things going downhill by his reaction. They talked like it wouldn't have escalated like it did had the HC remained more in control. They said he assistant coach got right up in the ref's face and acted as though he wanted to fight him. The radio crew said that the HC coach took a seat on the bench so I'm assuming he wasn't tossed. I'm not sure if the assistant was tossed or not. They said a couple of fans were ejected, so I'm sure the police got involved. The Corbin broadcaster seemed pretty dismayed by the whole incident and said he felt bad for the Wburg kids. I think there were two, maybe three technicals called.

Double technicals were initially called
on one player from Corbin and one from Wburg which would have been offsetting. The refs were huddling and discussing near the Wburg bench but on the floor near mid court when the Wburg HC and one of the assts tried to interject themselves into the referree huddle and was asked to go back to bench.  He became upset and in return the Asst coach got up in one of the referees face pointing a finger like he was going to punch and a technical foul was assessed on the bench. Honestly was shocked the asst was not thrown out.  AND then when it was announced a parent stood up and began yelling obscenities at the referrees that could be heard througout the gym.

(01-24-2023, 10:57 PM)Actually the head coach stayed very calm However he was taking up for his boys! The Refs were horrible especially Wilson so yes when he called a ridiculous foul on one of our kids the coaching staff was outraged!! As for the fans no one was cussing but yes they were upset w good reason! Coach Hibbard is one of the best coaches in the region and no one needs to talk bad about him! He treats his players w respect and he truly cares about them! Wrote: Final from L.U.
