The man known as the "Old Left-hander" died overnight from complications stemming from a bout with cancer. He was 79 at the time.

On a personal note, I will miss Joe greatly. I grew up with him and Marty, listening to many a Reds game on the radio in the days before there was a Fox Sports Ohio. The two of them had a chemistry that I would guess very few broadcast partners have ever had. I still remember his famous line, "This is the old left-hander rounding third and heading for home. Good night, everyone."
So long, Joe. We'll miss you.

I've never heard of the man, but after reading that article I don't know how I hadn't heard of him, but it must be a huge loss for the Reds organization.

The Old Left Hander has rouned third and is now home.... I cut my baseball teeth listening to Joe Nuxall cheer on the Big Red Machine. He was a great one. Thanks for the memories, Joe.

I always loved how he would yell, "Get outta here!" when the Reds hit one that had a chance to be a homer.
Joe was always a Red through and through, and being a broadcaster wasn't going to change that one bit. Another part of him I will miss.

Very sad news to hear it really is. I always listened to Reds games with my Grandpa when I was yougner, Brennaman and Nuxhall those were great times. Truly one of the great pioneers of baseball on and off the field and in the booth as well. You will be missed Ol' Left Hander!
