Woodford County @ Frederick Douglass 11/18
#1
Well it is finally going to happen two of the most talked about teams in central Kentucky the past two seasons will meet for the first time with a trip to the 5A semi-finals on the line. The Yellow Jackets of Woodford Co. (11-1) will come to "The Farm" to take on the Broncos of Frederick Douglass (12-0) as of this post the game time has not been posted.

This game will come down to which teams strength will prevail. The Yellow Jackets come into this game with the most points (553) of any team in 5A and the 3rd highest in the entire state. The Broncos come into the game of allowing the fewest points (54) of any team in 5A and it is also the lowest of any team in the state. Woodford high powered offense is lead by running back Preston Stacy and quarterback Andrew Nasen. Stacy who has rushed for 831 yards and is averaging 8 yards per carry and has 18 rushing touchdowns and 2 receiving touchdowns. Nasen has thrown for just under 1400 yards with 19 touchdowns. He has also rushed for over 750 yards and 9 touchdowns with an average of over 11 yards per carry.

The Broncos will be playing in their 4th straight 5A state quarterfinal. The Broncos are 11-0 and have won 24 of the last 26 over the past two seasons. In past seasons most of the talk has been about the Douglass high powered offenses, but this season it has been their defense. This season the Bronco defense is only allowing a state's best 4.5 points per game and only allowing 97 total yards per game. While the defense gets most of the talk this season the Douglass offense is still pretty good. They are averaging the most points in 5A at just under 50 per game (49.6) they also have the largest scoring margin in 5A at just under 45 points per game. Douglass has a strong running game behind TJ Horton and Davaun Hart who have combined to rush for over 1000 yards and then throw in Cameron Dunn and Ty Bryant and you have a very good rushing game. Quarterback Cole Carpenter has quietly put together a very good season he has thrown for close to 1500 yards with 18 touchdowns and only two interceptions.

This game will as stated above will come down to if the high powered Yellow Jacket offense will be able to move the ball and put together long drives and keep the Bronco offense off the field. I think the Bronco defense will be to much for Woodford in this one. The game can be seen of the NFHS Network.

The best team in the state of Kentucky will win easily. May very well clock them. Douglass advances closer to a state title.

If your team ever played them in anything you wouldn’t need to ask.

If their fan base is anything like the football announcers (on livestream)........ whoa geez. Those two guys think there is a penalty on every play with Woodford always on the wrong end of it.

They have a good team and coaches there have done a good job bringing in out of town talent and coaching it up, However they are classless, cheap, and dramatic. Which to me all the side shows kind of takes away from the success they have had.  Douglas coaches warn your players of coaches talking to them on the sideline and taunting them.

Freddy D will win and I do not have a doubt about that.

I am doubting a running clock though.

I totally agree! This is the one team that I can not stand.  Fans, players, coaches.  All classless and just rude.

Not seen a lot of them, but their situation reminds me of Corbin last year. Pretty weak schedule, undefeated. Now the opponent they face has been through the ringer, played several potential state title teams. So tough competition for them is no stranger. They know what they will have to play like, energy and physical level, etc to compete with it. W East doesn’t IMO. Being at home will help them. But I can def see FC coming out victorious
In all polls I have seen,  they are no higher than 5th ranked. No lower than 8th. I think they are appropriately rated. They are in the final 8 playing in 4A so it seems justified.

I guess my question is where do you have them ranked to not be overrated?

FC certainly capable of winning this game but East has experience, speed, and size to match up with them with so I don't see some blowout like that fraudulent spencer co team
Sorry Fade, you are absolutely correct and overrated was bad verbiage. I should have said, like Corbin last year, IMO they aren’t as good as they appear on paper. They are 4 in RPI. But their OWP is below .500, which could me either 1) they played some bad teams all year or 2) they played some good teams, but those teams had hard
schedules. But looking at their OOWP, it’s just .54, which to me means they played a light schedule. Only 3 teams theyve played had winning records. Wayne, Franklin Simpson, and Daviess co. If those are the best teams they’ve played, again just in my opinion I don’t think they’ve proved themselves yet. So the record can be misleading. But i could be wrong, won’t be the first time today. Might not even be the last. They could wipe everybody left, I don’t see it, but again it’s hard to judge yourself playing teams with losing records. If you made me bet. Im gonna take FC by 2 scores

I don't see them whiping anybody left. All these games will be tough for East. I just know they are a competitive team and have a good amount of seniors and have outstanding skill position players. Especially at quarterback.  You are correct in terms of schedule though. Hard to have a solid read. As far as the game, I don't see anybody winning comfortably like that one way or the other. But if you made me bet I would take East by a score. I have never seen Franklin County play, I just watch the games online and from last week against Spencer. They remind me a lot of East honestly in terms of personnel and style. Now East doesnt have any single guy like Moorman so it will take a collective effort. Hoping for a fun game with no injuries

You are correct... I seen one of their coaches chest bump the smallest player on FC's team at the 50 during pre game one year. kid maybe weighed 110 lbs.

I just want to hear the Woodford announcer have a mental breakdown. If anyone has ever streamed one of their games, you know what I mean.

Tied at 7 at the half.

Broncos have a 28 yard touchdown run by Bryant called back for holding and then they have to punt.

Douglass defense gets a big interception and have the ball at the Woodford 21 yard line.

Touchdown by Ty Bryant the extra point is good Douglasss leads 14-7.

Woodford fumbles on the first play of the 4th quarter recovered by Douglass on the Woodford 20 yard line.

Another touchdown by Douglass who now leads 21-7 with about 10 minutes left to play.

Douglass defense stops the Jackets on downs and takes over at the Woodford 41 yard line.
