Back in the day you had 2 DI levels. DI and DI-AA......then DII, DIII and NAIA.
Somewhere along the line, the NCAA decided that any school with DI basketball and any other football division, they needed to make a decision. That decision was either take all programs to the DII level or bring their football programs up to the DI level.
Well many of these schools felt that their DI basketball programs could not move down and their football programs could not move up to DI, so they petitioned to have another league formed.
This is where these schools created a non-scholarship division called DI, by name only to satisfy the NCAA. It is called the Pioneer League. They claim to be DI but they don't offer athletic scholarships. Same as IVY League. They can give academic money, but they can not offer athletic money.
Nothing against any of the Ivy League or Pioneer Programs, just find it interesting when people lump these schools into the DI category. All are fine schools, just not true DI by definition when it comes to the caliber of scholarship athletes.
I just cringe when I see posts from folks that tout that their school has X number of DI athletes or when they tout their boy has X number of DI offers from these type of schools. So many people are "ate up" with the DI stamp that they go over the top touting this nonsense. Mom and Dad......even worse Coaches! They should know better.
I know these schools use this as a recruiting tool, and shame on them. If 99% of the players on the fore said DI schools walked on at true DI schools, they would probably not last very long.
Also, an offer is just that, an offer......all schools throw offers out with both hands....they don't mean squat unless they are "committable". 95% of all offers thrown out there are "uncommittable" just ask many athletes that touted having numerous offers and are still looking for a home.
The college recruiting world is filled with "sharks, misconception, manipulation and down right lies".
My advice....if your son wants to play and he thinks he can play at a higher level, then go their dreams. There are plenty of extremely successful Professional Athletes that we told they weren't the caliber of DI. Just make sure they work their tails off to prove themselves and wish for the best.

Unfortunately posting things is sort of the game these days. You don’t post that your getting noticed then half the college coaches don’t even take you serious these days… unfortunate reality. I have seen the kids in my area wait and wait without getting one single offeruntil they get one…. Then next thing you know you got five… all those have committed and our on rosters currently. They never got a second offer until they posted it publicly after the first. Personally I am happy the kids post and get recognized for Any positive attention. The road to college can be hard.

There are 2 subdivisions of Division 1. FBS and FCS. FCS is allowed 63 total scholarships compared to 85 for FBS. The Pioneer League is a conference within FCS that is non scholarship.

Just want to reiterate the point: COMMITABLE OFFER are the only offers that matter. You have to go out and get seen. Like it or not... college coaches have access to hudl but someone on staff goes to camps and decide for themselves who deserves a COMMITABLE OFFER. This is not always the Head Coach but I guarantee the HC knows about the kid before hand.
