The winningest high school football coach of all time John McKissick passed away earlier today. He was 93 years old. McKissick accumulated 621 career wins in 62 seasons at Summerville High School in Summerville, South Carolina. He retired from coaching back in 2014. This is a record that may never been broken. That's 62 seasons at a little more than 10 wins a season. Coach Haywood is the winningest coach in Kentucky and 5th in active coaches in the United States and has a 448-138 all time record which is only 586 career games coached. 621 wins is crazy to even consider in today's world. You could go undefeated at 15-0 for 41 straight seasons and would only accumulate 615 wins. This is also where A.J. Green who is a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals played high school football.

Wow that last statement about going for 41 at 15-0 really puts in perspective. Just imagine in the 62 years how many of those kids lives he changed. To me even if it were just one, itâs worth it. But you know he probably changed the future for more of them than we ever could.

I forgot to add he won 10 state championships with his last one coming in 1998.

This day and time, 15 years is a long time to be a head coach.

Impossible for anyone to last 62 years as a head coach. Not a lot guys last until they are 62 years old let alone 62 years as a head coach.

Thank you for posting this, pirateforlife. Summerville is a great, great football town. I lived there in the mid â90s, so this really hit home for me. No more beloved person in the community than Coach McKissick.
Here is a link to yesterdayâs Charleston The Post and Courier article. Embedded is an excellent five-plus minute video, Honoring Coach McKissick.

Quite the legacy - Ten titles over five decades and his grandson is now head coach of The Green Wave. âWell done, good and faithful servant!â

Insane amount of wins but unbelievably will likely be broken in 2 more seasons. John Curtis Christian in Lousiana coach J.T. Curtis who is the son of school founder is at 595 wins, and will likely get a couple more wins this season his team is still in playoffs, and he has won 27 State Championships. J.T. Curtis has only lost 65 games in his 51 seasons of coaching. I'd imagine he will coach at least a couple more years and break the record. He is only like 72 years old, and is in great health i believe, and only looks about 50.

Wow! 27 state championships? He could easily get to 700 career wins if he wants to.

Yes look him up. Its insane. 585-64-6 was his record starting this season. 10-1 record so far this season, and his team is still playing in playoffs tonight. Almost a 90 percent winning percentage. Started coaching in 1969. If his health holds up, and he wants to he can put the record Easily past 700. Man looks 20 years younger than he is. He is still about 16 years younger than Mckissick was when he retired. Imagine if he keeps coaching for 15 years he may hit close to 800 wins

I just read an article about him. It said he went 0-10 in his first season as head coach and he put together 39 notebooks for the first practice that year and only 6 players showed up. He won his first state championship in his 7th season and has had 14 undefeated seasons.

The school only started in 1962. I would guess his first year 1969 was their 1st season with a football team. Picture the run Mayfield has been on the last decade with about 1 loss a year and 5 titles in a decade, and he has matched that run every decade for 50 years! Bet no team in Louisiana is happy about being in the same classification as them.
