Team of the decade
#1
This decade is only months away from being done with. A lot has happened in sports and life. A lot of changes have been made as well In Kentucky sports. So let’s hear it, who are the team(s) of the decade to you? Keep in mind this is not a single year team, but overall for the last 10 years. Due to reclassification we’ll just say whichever class they were in the longest.

1A- beechwood has won plenty the last few years, but since 2010 mayfield has won 5 in class 1A. They are still a force to be reckoned with. I give the nod to them

2A- NCC, CAL, and desales all have two titles in 2A. NCC around 2010 and a little beyond was a juggernaut but have since fell off. While CAL and desales have rose. This one is too close to call for me right now.

3A) HANDS DOWN CORBIN!!! I mean who else? Hahah. Oh yea, probably that other team in red!’ The pirates. Let’s be honest folks, it’s not even close. Central could make an argument for it, but belfrys last few years vs. head to head push them over the top to me.

4A- although highlands has severely dropped from where they were starting in/around 2010. Those years still make it enough to me to push them past the last few seasons FS has had.

5A- the Purps from BG, hard to make an argument for anyone else.

6A- shamrocks have won 6 since 2010. Not only that, they’ve been on the national scene in some of those years. While they have been down- for their standards anyways- the last few years, their runs through this decade really don’t even make it close.

Thoughts?

Mayfield Cardinals have to be in the conversation.

So does Boyle Co with 4A titles in 2009, 2010 and 3A 2017....a bigger argument if they add a 4A in 2019.

And possibly 2 Mr Footballs (Dawson - 2010, ? - 2019).

But what class? 3A? 4A?

He already said Mayfield was Class A team.

The only one that I can have an opinion on and argue which there really isn't much of a debate. Is Belfry for 3A with four state championships in a row.

1a Mayfield
2010 undefeated state champions
2011 14-1 state runners up
2012 14-1 state champs
2013 14-1 state champs
2014 14-1 state champs

Left 1a in 2015 to go win another one in 2a.

Yea MF was one of those teams that was split in time between the classes. In all honesty, i just put them in as the 1A team of the decade. But if they were included in the 2A they’d still be TOD.

As you said, here’s the case for 2a:
2015 first year back in 2a. 14-1 state champs
2016 13-1 lost to eventual state champs in semis
2017 13-2 state runners up
2018 14-1 state runners up

Highlands and Trinity historically make everyone else look bad.

That 2015 team is the team that beat 1A Williamsburg in the state championship game in 2014, still drinking over that game. Confusednicker:

Well I can’t count count 2009 but if it were team of the millennium so far, they’d be in conversation.

Boyle has had a lot of success in their history and from the looks of it will continue to do so. But the problem with them lies with the teams they’re going against. With another ring this year, it’d still be hard for me to put them above belfry and the run they’ve made this decade. Boyle started this decade out strong, kind of went down, and the past few years have came on strong.

I also didn’t consider the Mr. footballs in my thoughts because I was going for a more overall team, but BC has def had some talent come through since then!

I don’t really have time right now, how many years did Boyle spend in each class?

Well I didn’t really want to make a team the winner of two classes but I see your point. Whichever one they would be included in they would win.

I'm not a good one for that question.

I know the first five titles (99-03) were spread between 2A and 3A (four class system), then 09-10 were 4A. Then 2017 3A. Now 4A...where is Jack Lambert when you need him?

Great teams like Boyle and mayfield make this a little tricky, because they’ve been good in both classes.

Boyle’s state titles 1999 - 2000 were 2A, 2001-2003 were 3A, 2009 - 2010 were 4A, and 2017 was 3A.

To best of my knowledge was a 2A team until 2001, 3A from 2001- 2006, moved to 4A in 2007 - 2014, back to 3A 2015 - 2018, and back to 4A this year.

Hope this helps.

Give me the team that has won more games in a ten year span than any team has in Kentucky history

Boyle won 5 straight titles and played in 6 Straight.

I’m sure it’s Mayfield.

Boyle’s best run was 126 wins from 1996 to 2005.
