Ashland also has played two out of state teams. By end of year these should balance out well for what they are intended to do.
not correct

BOC made this call not Julian, need to blame the right people.

A win over an undefeated Trinity team should be worth more than a win over an undefeated team in any lower classification.
And yes, the way that out of state opponents are incorporated into the RPI is ridiculous. If a team plays the most difficult schedule in the state and wins all of its games, then any system should be able to determine the top team in the state. Yet, there sits Trinity at #5 in 6A.
Not sure they were always equal. For instance, when a restructuring of classes occurred some ended on the road for consecutive years. Not very equal.

I don't know why i'm even responding but Julian Tackett made this football decision without talking to the football advisory board and got the non-football people at the BOC to sign it. Having it come from the BOC is a technicality of how the mechanics have to work. Everything that happens comes from the BOC by your reasoning because they have to sign everything.

The bottom line is that it's a flawed system and the simple fact that Trinity is ranked #5 in 6A is all the proof I need.
I know it's early but that's no excuse.

It would be unreasonable to expect that reclassification would not create some winners and some losers because of timing issues.
My point is that the new system will, whether intentional or not, influence the way that some schools structure their schedules. Any system that provides incentives to schools for scheduling weaker competition is not good for players or teams, IMO. That is exactly what an RPI system that ignores classifications and undervalues out of state games against strong competition will do. At least the old system did not drive regular season scheduling decisions.
Belfry's 14-0 loss to Alter is a great example. If 3A Belfry beats 1A Pikeville by one point, its RPI will be very positively impacted. By losing to a very strong Alter team after a very long road trip, Belfry's RPI will suffer even if Alter wins an Ohio state title. I mean no disrespect to Pikeville, but a narrow win over a 1A school by a 3A contender should not boost Belfry's RPI.
The Calpreps rankings would be a much more fair system for seeding teams. Flipping coins would be as good as what KHSAA is proposing.
