WMDJ reports Kevin Spurlock resigns as head coach of Floyd Central
#91
Can we just leave this alone. He’s gone. New coach. Kids got to come back. No sense in the character assianination going on. Can spurlock be an ass hole sure. Most all coaches can. It’s over let it go. We all know spurlock and have an opinion rather good or bad. Getting on here and going on abt him isn’t changing anything.

As talented as he was, he could have transferred and played elsewhere but he chose to come back to Sheldon Clark and play even though Spurlock was still the coach. I give him credit for coming back to play for his home school.

If the same stuff happened at Sheldon Clark and Perry Central, then why wasnt this taken to the media like the Floyd Central story was? If their was legitimate proof of mistreatment/complaints, then the parents should have spoken up. Or if they did speak up, why didnt it come out? I am honestly curious about that.

His problems at Perry Central had very little to do with his coaching style.

He's an abrasive guy, they were blown out in the regional championship game with a team of studs and there was another situation that really sped up his departure.

Saying the same thing happened at Perry Central just isn't true.

Kevin is a great guy and a no nonsense coach.. old style get after your tail and make you the best player possible. JMO, need more coaches like him in this world and our kids wouldn’t expect everything handed to them in life. We have a coach that is very similar to Kevin. Coach Morris and he has done a marvelous job with our program. Parents keep the heck out of his way and let him grow our young people up!!

That's what I thought. Also at Sheldon Clark his last year there won the District Tournament for the first time in 7 years and I want to say had one of their best records in school history.

I saw a post on here maybe in this thread even someone saying Spurlock had been "fired everywhere else he's been." If that was true I seriously doubt he would have been offered the job at Perry Central to begin with.

He didn't leave most places on his own terms. His departures from Hazard, Perry and Clay County boil down to one thing - losing games.

He lost to Perry Central in the first round of district in back-to-back years at Hazard. He only won one regional tournament game (I think) at Clay. If he knocks off Perry in 2004 after winning the All-A or maybe beats them in 2005, I think his resume would look a lot different.

Funny that Sheldon Clark keeps getting brought up and he actually left on his own terms and a player followed him.

Agreed. Also at Sheldon Clark one of his best players quit his junior year then came back to play for him his senior year. No transferring to another school or no parents/ players from Sheldon Clark going to the media with allegations.

BJ Moore played his sophomore year at Sheldon Clark for Coach Roger Harless and had really good year scoring 635 points that year. He had a close relationship with Coach Harless and when they fired Coach Harless and hired Kevin Harless, BJ just elected not to play his junior year, he didn't go out, so he really didn't quit.

Yes BJ could of transferred to a different school legally but he didn't, he wanted to play his senior year with his cousin Chase Parsley and BJ had a good year scoring 541 points and for those of you that don't know BJ and Chase they are cousins, their moms are sister and yes they lived next door to each other in Kermit WV.

Yes Sheldon Clark did have a winning season and won the District that year but with players like BJ Moore 541 pts, Justin Johnson 466 pts, Chase Kirk 320 pts, Chase Parsley 215 pts, Dylan James and others, any mediocre coach could of won that year.

Yes Kevin Spurlock did leave SC to go to PCC, and yes the martin county superintendent let him out of his contract early so he could take the job and yes they were classmates at Alice Lloyd, who knew......

Times have changed and social media is bigger and more prevalent than it was just a few years ago, now everyone is watching.....

Well this is fun, but I'm just going to retire this thread.

This isn't a power move or anything. There's already another Floyd Central coaching thread open. Feel free to move all the shenanigans over there.
