Powell County 59 Owsley County 47 (12/18/18)
#1
Final from Stanton.

Very bad shooting night for Owsley. I don’t know what the % was but it was low. And not just with FG’s....the free throw shooting % was low, too. Missed 18 free throws, several of those being one and bonus. A lot of turnovers too, and too much fouling....three players fouled out and two more had four.
Powell is a district game and there’s always more to those seeded games than the regular season games. And as I’ve mentioned in other threads, other than senior Emilee McQueen the other four starters are 10th graders and the first two reserves are 9th and 7th. When a team is this young it’s not surprising to have off nights.
Also, Powell has a good team. The games they’ve lost have been to good competition, such as Madison Southern and Dunbar. They beat East Jessamine by 12 in Versailles. They’re 5-3.
This Lady Owls group will be fine. If they can miss 18 free throws and get beat only 12 at Powell then that lets me see that once they get their shooting eye back they’ll be fine. UK went 0-100 (it seemed) against Georgetown in the second half of ‘84 FF and somewhere around 3-34 on three pointers in the 2010 Regional loss to West Va., that with a 32-2 team. These anomalies happen in all sports. Owsley getting ready for the next game and good things going forward.

^^^ I meant East Jessamine in Nicholasville, not Versailles.

Good win for Lady Pirates, they’re off to a solid start
