That's what I thought. He was hurt about 6-7 plays before the play in question. He made an over the shoulder catch down the Corbin sideline and he Beechwood defender fell on top of him as they both went to the ground. He never came back in to the game. #84 was the player that was legally hit on the bang bang call in the endzone on 4th down.

It was a great game between two great teams, I hate to see someone posting that a cheap shot may have ended someone's season, when that is not the case at all.

I originally missed where it was said that gosselin was hurt on that play or I would’ve cleared it up. Looking back it says it plain as day, I must’ve just read over it. Gosselin was hurt on a completely legal clean play. As you said it was the over the shoulder catch on corbin’s Sideline.
I also think the penalty play has some confusion surrounding it. It wasn’t pass interference, it was a hit on a defenseless player. The reason that flag was thrown was because the defender went high on the receiver. The timing was not in question. Had the defender hit the receiver Below the head/neck then I don’t think that flag gets thrown. My understanding of the rule is that a defender cannot target the defenseless players head or neck area with his helmet, shoulder pads, or forearm. Which is clearly what happened. I honestly don’t like the rule, just like I don’t like the peel back/crack block rule, but it was the correct call to make.

I still remember how strong and physically tough that '77 team was as well. I remember the kid who ripped the ball away was a bruising MLB or NG, can't recall which. Steve Bird was a RB on the team. I've still got a video shot off the 16 mm film of the game.
