I think they were 0-2 last season...0-3 actually. Russell had their chances in this one. Ironton isn’t that great. Russell snapped it over their QB’s head for a safety, got a punt blocked for a TD, and had 2 big fumbles. This wasn’t Coach Maynard’s fault.

Russell Defense played a good game tonight. It was the offense and turnovers that gave this game away. A terrible snap over the punters head and Ironton ran it in for a TD to make a 9-7 in 4th quarter. Then Russell was Driving near the 20 yard line with around 3 minutes left and fumbled the ball. If Russell drives it in they could have pulled it out or even getting close enough for a Field Goal and they still take the lead at 10-9. Then after the fumble 2 plays later a 74 yard TD run for a 16-7 final score. Russell simply blew this game.

Both teams play hard. Ironton has way too many kids playing both ways but got he W. Was at game neither offense is going to score many points on good Defenses.

I agree that Russell will have a hard time scoring against the better teams on the schedule Raceland,Ashland etc.

Give the evils a little credit. Ironton doesn’t suck. Tigers held the burg to 28 points last week. Aren’t the evils still pretty young?

I think if Russell doesn't fumble near the end of the 4th near the Ironton 20 and they punch it in they stand a great shot at winning. Hats off to Ironton they made the plays needed to win.

You all are actually right for a change believe it or not.... this wasn’t coaches fault kids played hard just some tough breaks. The offense runs better with Charlie at QB. Russell looks better going under center mixing it up run and pass. Devils let this one get away

Burg was getting pounded tonight 33-6 in the first half. Not sure if you can base Irontons performance last week against them or not.

Russell made too many mistakes tonight.. although I saw signs of life, This team will continue to improve,unfortunately they play Ashland next Friday night. I have to say the defense played great and so did the offensive line

Maynard is at least attempting to change formations to support run more and the changes on defensive coaching communication is a start. Russell’s goal this year has to be getting better,cannot evaluate this year on wins and losses this year. Devils are young seniors need to take pride on leaving program going in a better direction than where it was when they started!

I was surprised it was 7-2 Russell after 3 quarters tonight. The big play was the snap that sailed over the Punters head and Ironton recovered and took it in for a TD to go up 9-7. The defense was awesome up to the point Ironton ran 74 yards for a touchdown to make it 16-7. Russell is a young team this year and they have some talent coming up in the next couple of years. I like when Russell is playing more of the conventional offense of mixing the Run and pass. Russell has 3 or 4 nice running backs with Conley, Duvall, and Sharp. I like Charlie Jachimczuk at QB and he is only sophomore. I like what I saw tonight on defense side by Russell and they have some nice runners in Conley, Duvall, and Sharp. We just need to keep improving on the Offensive side of the ball and just continue to get better this year.

I think the ceiling this year is winning the district and winning a playoff game or 2 but nothing is going to come easy this year.

Charlie needs to be full time qb. Play grant as receiver/tight end plenty of qbs have made great tight ends. Take your lumps with learning curve for Charlie, it will pay off when he’s like General Patton on the field as a senior.

Yes I know they are good, but didn’t they play them last season and come away with a W. All I was trying to say is year to year teams get better or worse. Burg may not be quite as strong as last season.

They didn’t play Bishop Hartley last year they played Bishop Watterson and Bishop Ready.
