Danville/Southwestern Scrimmage
#1
SW 35 Danville 7 at halftime.

Danville scored on first or second play of second half with a nice 60-65 yard run with most of SW starters still playing on D but JV backfield on O the whole 3rd qtr.

No live special teams.

Thorton looked fine and Danville didn't show much variety on offense and I think O will be fine but the D must get a lot better.

They have some talent but are not deep. Sawyers kid at Qb is a very good runner and is a better passer than most think. They have weapons but must stay healthy. Danville didn't show a lot on offense and new Rb's were a little tentative. Thorton is outstanding for them at QB and will have to carry the load for the offense early in the year. The Defense........needs work.

Yes SW is that good. They are a 10 win team that returned 8 offensive players and 9 defensive players. Lost Edwards bu have 3 solid backs that bring speed and power. SW has two of the best athletes in the state. SW only left 3 varsity players on defense in 3rd and only oline in 3rd. They also only showed 10 plays. Some may argue that for not a few injuries SW should have played in state championship last year. Very solid team on both sides of the ball 2nd to Boyle probably the 2nd best team in this area.

Danville has some shoes to fill.

Danville wasn't hopeless on D. They had several negative plays that caught SW behind the line of scrimmage. Bell made a lot of tackles for Danville. Too many. But it seemed like it was at or behind the line or it was at least 8 or 9 yard gain. One of SW touchdowns was on 4th and 10. For SW they have to find some way to be consistent.

Danville has some players....Bell, Thornton, Bartleson and their OL. And the HC is very good! They will improve.

Agree about last year. Probably should have been in Finals. Def had a path. They are thin however and Oline must get sound fundamentally and get in shape.
