Well that was nice

Since schools refuse to vote on the issue and class certain sports and split privates our of certain sports, the only option left is for schools to break away from the khsaa
#4
Public/Private Look at the history of these sports. These sports have been owned by private schools of all class sizes for years.
Volleyball.
Golf.
Swimming & Diving.
Tennis.
Soccer.

Bass Fishing, Bowling, Archery & Field Hockey. These sports/activities haven't been around long enough to send a trend of 5A/6A or Private schools claim dominance like what I have mentioned above.

Softball is the only sport I think a double Class system (1A, 2A & 3A/ 4A, 5A & 6A) would benefit more than a public/private split.

Need to be left as is.
Basketball.
Wrestling.
Baseball.

Already Classed
Cross Country.
Football.
Competitive Cheer
Track & Field.

Good luck convincing any schools to do that.

Ladies & Gentlemen of the jury, I present evidence to support my claim that certain sports need to be split in to Public/Private competition. This is not an attempt to say every kid gets a trophy mentality, rather this list is to show just how uneven the playing field has been since 2000. When we have a sport that has never had a public school team state champion in it's 38 year history, something needs to change... and that change is not telling the public schools to get better either. When one school has won every single team state championship in that certain sport for 31 straight years, something needs to change.

Volleyball
No public schools has EVER won the volleyball state championship since the sport was adopted in 1979.

Golf
Boys: 12 of the past 18 years have been won by a Private school.
Girls: 7 of the past 18 years have been won by a Private school. Girls Golf has the most spread out wins between Public/Private than any other sport I have listed on here.

Soccer
Boys: 18 of the possible 43 state titles have been won by Private schools & 11 of the past 18 years
Girls: 10 of the possible 26 state titles have been won by Private schools & 10 of the last 18 years.

Swimming & Diving
Boys: St. Xavier has won every team state title from 1987 through present.
Girls: 43 of the possible 72 team state titles have been won by a Private school & 12 of the last 18.

Tennis
Boys: 32 of the possible 37 team state titles have been won by a Private school.
Girls: 20 of the possible 37 team state titles have been won by a Private school.

Using the 2017 football classification here are the 1A-3A & 4A-6A breakdowns. Of the 24 possible team state titles, there are NO active 1A, 2A or 3A public schools that have won a softball team state title. Owensboro Catholic has 5 team titles, but they are a private school. Since 2000, a 4A, 5A or 6A school have won 13 of the last 19 team state titles. 4 of those years, a Private school won the team title. The other two years were won by Reidland, but that school has since consolidated. 1995 was the first season for softball.

1A-3A: 8
Owensboro Catholic (5). Private school.
Reidland (3) * No longer an active school/ left as 2A. 2013 was there last season.

4A-6A: 15
Greenwood (3).
Scott County (3).
DuPont Manual (2).
Allen County-Scottsville (1)
Calloway County (1)
Christian County (1)
Madisonville-North Hopkins (1)
McCracken County (1)
North Laurel (1)
Ryle (1)

No football class

The private public split is an asinine statement. How about we just cancel sports

What's asinine is having Cross Country and Track & Field split in to three classes. Let's not forget about the eight different team state championships awarded for Competitive Cheer as well as awarding a Boys & Girls Sweet 16 cheer leading state championship.

Boys Swimming & Diving has been won every season since 1987 by St. Xavier. I realize Swimming & Diving may not be the most popular sport offered by the KHSAA, but the same school winning the team state title for 31 straight years is insane.

Volleyball has never been won by a public school. 39 seasons and not one team state title has been won by a public school.

^^^^^^^^^^^
These are the best examples for a Public/Private split in certain sports. Two different sports, one boys and one girls sport, that have both been dominated by private schools for over thirty consecutive years.

The problem is that we have enough schools to split in class based on size. There are how many private schools that play volleyball, 13? 14?

By that logic, then every sport should be classed.

Oh I agree sports need to be classed, just not 6 public and 2 private or whatever.

What?

I mean that we can class sports by size because we have enough schools to form a class. If we separated publics and privates there would not be anywhere close to enough privates to form their own class and the size discrepancy in classed sports would be massive.

Under the new alignment for football for example, there are 2 6A schools, 1 5A school, 1 4A school, 2 3A schools, 3 2A schools, and 5 1A schools. More than half of a 'private class' would be below 250 total male enrollment.

Would it somehow be more fair to expect tiny Holy Cross to compete with Trinity than Scott County or Male?
